Loss of crunch on the Mark IV...

Well, the tube/s are new, I just got them from Dougstubes. It hasn't had more than...10 hours or so. I know what you mean by the treble control. When the amp is in a bad state, even the treble and both gains on 10 doesn't give it any type of major crunch...If I strum/pick really hard I could...

Loss of crunch on the Mark IV...

Ok guys, an update....so last night I tried swapping each preamp tube one by one to see if I could find the culprit. No big crunch change till I got to V1. That being said, it *seems* that V1 is bad... But, would a bad preamp tube do that? Also, would a bad preamp tube allow me to sometimes...

Loss of crunch on the Mark IV...

Hi guys, I was using my Mark IV out the other night and had it cranked pretty loud. I noticed that on the lead channel I lost alot of crunch. This was with both gains cranked pretty high. It almost sounded like the lead channel just had a volume gain rather than crunch. I thought it...

Mark IV sounded good till retube...

Hmm..1 and 5, eh? What exactly do 1 and 5 do? 1 is the "input stage" and 5 is the "phase inverter". I have no idea what either does to the amp...

Mark IV sounded good till retube...

Thanks guys! There are so many tubes I wasn't sure where to start. I'm thinking most likely the problem/change is from the preamp tubes and not the powertubes? Speaking of powertubes, man, those Ruby tubes run WAY hotten than the JJ powertubes...

Mark IV sounded good till retube...

    Hi guys, I just completely retubed my amp with these tubes from Dougs tubes...at his suggestion.. V1 - Tung-Sol reissue 12AX7 V2 - High gain JJ ECC83S V3 - Penta Labs 12AX7 V4 - Shuguang 12AX7C9 V5 - Sovtek 12AX7WA 4 matched Ruby 6L6s Now, I dunno, I seem to have lost some/alot of bottom...

Mark IV...great tones at low volumes, high volumes..ehhh

I'm still waiting on my dust cap to come in, but in the meantime, I made a ghetto style beam blocker with a square cut out of a dinner plate...big difference(to me). It doesn't seem as beamy and it's easier to hear a good mix of highs and lows without having to angle the amp to fire at me...

FS: Mesa Boogie DC-2 w/ original footswitch...Hawaii only...

Yah, it's really clean..Besides one scuff(didn't look too hard tho) on the tolex, it pretty much looks mint...esp. for the age...yah, too bad you are too far away...;) If I can't sell it locally, then maybe I'll branch out.

FS: Mesa Boogie DC-2 w/ original footswitch...Hawaii only...

Hey guys, I have a super clean Mesa Boogie DC-2 that I need to clear out. I believe the power tubes and 3 of the preamps have been replaced recently. It's been upgraded with a Celestion Vintage 30. The only catch is the buyer has to be located on Oahu...I'm not shipping this guy...;)

K, break this down caveman style..

thanks guys! And mrd, you answered my question...exactly. I should have been more specific in the type of tone I was looking for... Seems like the bottom line is classA, triode, tweed is the best way to get lots of gain with lower volume...sounds good! ;)

K, break this down caveman style..

Hey guys, I've been reading up on some of the Mark IV settings but still don't have a clear picture on what they really..do..note, I'm not a tube inclinded person, so if someone could break down these settings in layman terms..I guess more on how the amp should "act"/sound... Class A vs...

K...stupid question on the Mark IV...what am I doing wrong?

Well, to do that, I would have to turn the holes so the notches are north and south, right? I figure...right now, they are not N/S...but I keep turning the screw till I feel the arrows fall into the notch... I'll give it a shot...who knows...? ;)

K...stupid question on the Mark IV...what am I doing wrong?

Tory, Thanks so much for responding, I really appreciate it. I think something is wrong with either the screw part or the hole on the amp. I actually unscrewed the metal "hole" in the amp so I could see how the screw and hole interacted...it doesn't! It goes into the nick, but when I turn it, it...

K...stupid question on the Mark IV...what am I doing wrong?

Hey guys, Ok, so I figured out that you can mount the footswitch of the Mark IV to the back of the cab(don't look at me, this is the first time I've seen a Mark IV on the back)...I assumed the "screws" on the pedal go into the hole and you turn it to lock it...however, when I turn it...

Mark IV...great tones at low volumes, high volumes..ehhh

Ari, Let me know how it goes for you. I'm going to try and make a homemade beam blocker; I just ordered at 4" dustcap off the web, so all I need to do is get a beam to connect it to.

    I Love my MK IV

I hate to say it, but I was skeptical at first...but yes, the Mark IV pretty much kills every amp I've had before...if I can only get it to sound as good at low volumes as high volumes...I think my search for my distorted tone is done! :D It's the real deal.

Mark IV...great tones at low volumes, high volumes..ehhh

Yah, I agree the treble is strong when the speaker is firing at you. In fact, it makes me play differently because it's so harsh. I keep forgetting that it might sound like crap in here, but out there(esp through a mixer), it might sound good. I think maybe I shouldn't fire it at me and just...

Mark IV...great tones at low volumes, high volumes..ehhh

At home, it's not firing up at me, but it's a bit closer to me. Note, it's much more quiet at home(no drummer, singers, etc), so I don't have to go even close to the volume when out. I'm not even playing that loud! I think at home I was pushing the master output around 1 and out was...

Mark IV...great tones at low volumes, high volumes..ehhh

yup, I meant maxed out...I kinda dig the distortion sound when it's high like that at lower levels, but at higher levels...I think it might be part of the problem. No way to tell till I do it again tho.

Mark IV...great tones at low volumes, high volumes..ehhh

I'm running a combo, so I have it tilted back on amp stand so it fires towards my head. That way I can hear myself better. I'm running a Les Paul to a Ibanez TS9 to a ISP Decimator to the Mark IV. As for the other settings, I can't remember them exactly at the moment, but I do remember that...
