Help me chose an used Mark V

That missing paint looks to be on the thin plywood spacers and the side brace that are part of the head cab construction. The chassis snugs up against them, and the actual metal chassis looks fine in the photo. No signs of water damage. I wouldn't worry about that missing paint.

    Boost suggestions for Mark V

I am using a Critter Electronics CFR Klone (Klon clone, obviously), with the gain set low and volume and treble moderately high. This just does the right thing as a boost into the MkV90's Channel 2 or 3, seems to goose all the right frequencies without adding bass flub or midrange splat...

Amp turning off and on again quickly

That is helpful information! Thank you. I have only owned my Mark V for a few months, got it used with 2 years left on the tanferable warranty. I have not playing this amp live yet, not gigging that much but have some gigs coming up in late summer/fall. If the amp did this routine during a...

Amp turning off and on again quickly

I have very similar symptoms with my amp. Very random but probably once a week the amp will shut down and back on. I hear the fan shut off, the relays click, and then everything starts up again, all within a second or less. Occasionally it will do it again within a few seconds. It seems once the...

    Speaker recommendations

I swapped the C90 in my MK V with an Eminence Texas Heat. From what you described, I think you would probably really like it. It added sweetness, for lack of a better word, to the voice of the MK V. It’s a darker speaker but still has plenty of high end and a very pleasing, singing midrange. It...

    5:25+ Speaker Suggestions

I have a non-plus 5:25. Almost immediately I changed out the Mesa Vintage 30 for a Cannabis Rex, more out of reflex than anything else. Sounded very good but found that it tended to over-emphasize the lower end in a unbalanced way - too flabby - that I could not dial out. Also tried briefly a...

    Lonestar effect loop users

I learned something recently with my setup described above. The manual clearly states that the channel Master knobs set the send level for the effect send, which I had forgotten. Well, I was playing the amp at a recording session and did not use the effect loop. While dialing it in, I set the...

    LSC Tube Retainers?

Those look too large for EL-84s but a great idea.

    Lonestar effect loop users

I have a Lonestar Special, but the loop circuitry is identical to your Classic. I use a Akai Headrush delay in the loop. I am using a 4 cable method, using a Hosa stereo cable to make the connection between the loop send/return and the delay in/out. This setup works very well. I personally...

    LSC Tube Retainers?

YES! This drives me nuts. I have the LSS, and the wire retainers do not firmly hold the EL84s in their sockets. They tend to angle forward due to vibration or getting moved by the power cord. It doesn't seem to take much. At my third gig with this amp, I turned it on at soundcheck and it started...

    LSS Tone Heaven:

I noticed a third button in the middle of your LSS footswitch. Did you by chance do the mod to make the drive pot footswitchable? Been thinking about doing this. Thanks.

Installed a Greenback in my LSS combo

Very interesting! Glad you are happier with your tone - that is such a great feeling. I have a LSS, and I've considered swapping an Eminence GB-12 into it. This is supposedly a greenback clone, and is a really nice sounding speaker. I have it in my old Studio .22 which I've been using as an...

    LSS footpedal

Update: Plan-X is correct, no resistors needed.

    LSS footpedal

This is an older thread, but wanted to chime in. I just did some experimentation and the circuit is very simple. The two switches connect to a common ground. I measured the voltage one each positive channel at 11.5 Volts, so the LEDs definitely need a resistor in line to keep from popping. I...

Mesa branded NOS 5Y3 rectifier in LSS

Thanks for the feedback. I got some interesting feedback over at the gear page on this thread and I posted some photos: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=812799 That is a wise suggestion, I will get a spare tube. Already have some fuses, not sure if the amp will work in 30 watt...

Mesa branded NOS 5Y3 rectifier in LSS

New owner of a used LSS here. Love this amp, have read about problems in early models with blown rectifiers. I have an early one based on the serial number (LS-002051). I assumed I would have to get a NOS rectifier soon or risk a dead amp at a gig. Took out what it came with and was pleased to...

Used LSS came with NOS Mesa Rectifier Tube

I got a used 1x12 LSS two weeks ago. It was in mint condition. I looked at the tubes and they were all Mesa brand. Today I took out the rectifier tube to take a closer look, and it has Phillips JAN 5Y3 tube - has the JAN designation in blue ink across the brown base, with a Mesa badge on the...
