    Crackling noise in Channel 1

I have also had the issue you are referring to with my MKV. I've tried different tubes etc. but crackling never seems to go away. It is subtle but still there, especially when you sustain a chord/note (Ch.1). However, an interesting thing I discovered was when I put the amp into 'Hard Bypass' to...

Mark V combo is just too heavy.

Another option you have to 'lighten the load' is switch out the speaker to a neodymium speaker. You'd be around 10lbs. lighter (on average). The downside obviously, with a different speaker, your tone will be different. Just a suggestion...

Help me hook up my rig!

+1 on the Whammy/Wah The Whammy (WH4) in particular is a terrible tone sucker, it's night and day when you remove it from your signal chain. Now, The new Whammy (just got released - May 2012) and the Whammy DT are both 'true bypass'. I upgraded to the Whammy DT, much better.

Cable Question - updated with pics!

Nice acquisition indeed :D Your new cable should not be 'significantly' quieter than your old cable. Cables alone won't make that much of a difference in terms of volume. I suspect you have a faulty connection and would rewire it. Even if one strand of the copper conductor wire is touching...

    Mark V Slave output

There's a ton of free speaker cabinet impulses available, as well as plugins to run them. If you want to buy some try: Recabinet (http://www.recabi.com/) Redwirez (http://www.redwirez.com/) A very good pedal type cabinet simulator is the one by Surprise Sound SE-5...

    Reliability

Had mine for a couple of years now....absolutely no issues. I've jammed and gigged with it extensively.

    I have joined the club!

Congrats on the new addition. Enjoy! :D

    Mark V Line Out

If you connect a 'dummy load', such as a THD Hotplate (set to 'Load'), you can disconnect the speakers and record silently.

    Playing Mark V through PA

The Surprise Sound SE-5 seems to have good features. From the audio samples it sounds very good. Same guy that makes the mini Rock Block amp. I'm thinking of grabbing one for this exact purpose. http://www.surprisesoundlab.com/ssl-22_009.htm

What OD pedal to run with the Mark V? (OCD?)

I use a Suhr Koko Boost, simply amazing boost pedal. It is a little pricey but worth the $$. It's great on the clean channel, as well as Ch. 2 & 3, it adds that extra hair/sustain that I've been looking for. Haggerty's did an awesome demo of the Koko with the MKV...

First gig with the Mark V (combo): report

Cool, thanks for the report. Any clips would be great :D How does the M9 work for you in the loop? I'm considering getting one.

Petrucci's rig from tour with iron maiden

I didn't realize he wasn't mic'ing the cabs for a while, it's been a couple years since I've seen him live (until this past weekend).

Petrucci's rig from tour with iron maiden

Excellent info...thank you! I missed that link in your original post.

Petrucci's rig from tour with iron maiden

I saw them this past weekend...AMAZING performance as usual :D None of the four Mark V stacks on stage directly behind him were miked. These were most likely just dummy heads and cabs, judging by how easily the crew moved them off stage. Does anyone know how his signal runs to the PA? Is it...

looking for audio comparison between 6L6/EL34

I'm also interested in trying out EL34's. When you put the SED EL34's in, do you have to re-bias, or just flip the switch to EL34?

HELP on Mark V Combo or Head/Cab!

If you get the combo you can always run it into any cabinet. I have the head btw...I love the fact that I can run different cab/speaker combinations. I leave a cab at my jam space and just bring the head. All in all, I don't think you'll regret either.

    POLL: Effects Loop Success?

I'm running the RC2 in the FX loop. There is a significant drop in volume when I bring in the FX Loop. I've tried adjusting the master/output levels, but no luck. I'm thinking my issue is that the RC2 does not have a guitar/inst. level adjustment. Others have commented that they use the RC20...

    Mark V w/ Pedals - Having Trouble

+1 Although Boss pedals are one of the most popular stompbox brands, they are also the biggest tone suckers.

Anybody run a looper pedal such as a boss in their loop?

I was running an RC-2 in the loop. Running it in the loop will give you clean/dirty when you switch the channels on the MKV. The problem I found was setting the levels between the looper/amp. Whenever, I engaged the looper/fx loop, the level would drop. I tried adjusting the Fx loop level...

Wampler Triple Wreck into Mark V question

Hey, I've got one and use it with my Mark V. I use it more for the fuzz effect than the triple rec. I'll try to record a few samples for you in the next few days. It's a great pedal. Try YouTube for samples, but I don't think any of those are through a Mark V.
