So I switched out my Mark IV for my Splawn last night at rehearsal and got an interesting response from the rest of the band

yeah I guarantee it's how the splawn upper mids really pop out of a mix in a very hair/trad metal kind of way, and they're hearing stuff they haven't heard before. they really are great HRMs.

    Mesa Thiele 4x12 stack

idk why you'd bother, you're just going to end up with the same output wattage but with way higher resistance. the idea of the thiele is that you put a speaker that can handle big watts into a small cab that can put out decent bass if it's pumping, but unless you rube goldberg up a wiring...

So I switched out my Mark IV for my Splawn last night at rehearsal and got an interesting response from the rest of the band

for me splawns are all pretty much the opposite of the smooth, compressed mark iv sound. the marshall dna is strong. the QR I had was very dynamic and had a pronounced upper mid spike that made it kerrang! and pop right out in a mix at the price of feeling stiff/hard to play and seeming even...

Difficulty getting musical feedback from Mark amps

take the geq out, take your hands off the strings, face the cab. firmly tap the guitar body with two fingers and see which if any strings start feeding back. mute strings individually with your pick hand to test. start doing barre chord shapes up the neck, don't hit them, same thing, tap the...

The price of Mark series amps these days. thoughts?

I love my Mark III but if someone offered me US$4K tomorrow it would be out the door so fast

The price of Mark series amps these days. thoughts?

the question is never the asking price, it's the selling price. Reverb's existence* has led to a selling strategy across all platforms where if the seller's livelihood is not dependent on buying and selling gear, it often makes more sense for them to post dramatically inflated prices and hope...

    Still the King

If you're not a metal player purple might be the best for you. My experience with the purple is that R2 has a fatter 'tweedy' sound that is just a great loud rock tone, a blast to play, and sounds fantastic with pedals, really reminds me of Neil Young in his loudest Crazy Horse days. It might...

Mark iii - Help me turn my Blue stripe into a Red stripe PLEASE !!!

learning what the volume and tone knobs on your guitar do combined with the mark iii's Volume and Treble knob and treble shift pull will erase any stripe differences and open up all sorts of tone shaping without even touching the geq mark iii stripes is the dumbest boogie rabbit hole you can...

Shipping MK III head back to Boogie

ship the chassis only. use cardboard and slabs of foam from other packing to make sure there's at least 1.5" "solid" protection around the chassis on all six sides, and that it can't move at all. don't use any loose fill.

Mark iii - Help me turn my Blue stripe into a Red stripe PLEASE !!!

how would you know anything about the red's gainy girthiness if you don't even own one? i have owned all the stripes. there is no difference worth chasing. try practicing if you want to sound good.

Pedals issue with RoV 50 FX Loop

I can't explain the electronics, but Mesa's older manuals are pretty sniffy about using 'pro-quality' outboard FX instead of 'cheap pedals', and I found the loops on both my ToV and the RoV I used to own to be gigantic pains in the *** with pedals. EQD DIspatch Master, EQD Ghost Echo, Chase...

Who here DOESN'T use the "Classic V" grapic EQ set

Shallow M, but I hardly ever use it and only on Lead. The best way I ever heard the old school Mark experience described is that the tone stack finds the best core tone for the guitar for that channel and the amount of gain you want, and then the GEQ is to put you in the mix/room. Super...

Any Rectifier Recording owners who can advise me?

I had one, it worked fine. The problem is without a Mesa poweramp it's hard to get high gain to sound like a Recto, and with one then you're into rack hell. Racks suck. Never build a rack. My advice if you want a Recto is sell the 2:100 and buy a MWDR.

Looking to figure out how to sell an amp

Hi there - this is probably not the best place to actually sell an amp, most people here have what they are looking for already. But if you can post a good picture of the front and back of the amp, someone here can tell you exactly what it is. If you are comfortable packing it up to ship, your...

Another thread on the RA100, Power tubes

I've been very happily using EH 6CA7s. This is my rehearsal space amp and has been played loud on the regular for years. I just ordered my third set, I get about 400 hours per with masters usually at noon with -3db on the soak. I tried the 6CA7s originally sort of on a whim, because I liked...

    Do you feel it’s a waste…

No, but I think some people should ask themselves whether their hobby has become gear, not music, and if so, do they still want to spend thousands of dollars on it?
