Speaker type / tube type combination

Hi there Welcome to the board! I always feel the best thing is to go with what you like best, regardless of the "received wisdom" is...the nice thing is being able to experiment until you find that tone grail. Personally, I like Vintage 30s in anything!

Lonestar owners...which reverb do you perfer?

Hi there Personally, I like the warm reverb setting best. I tend to run a clean amp (wet) and a dirty amp (dry) together and I use it just for a bit of extra "space" in the overall soundscape, especially on clean stuff but also for music like the early Van Halen I/II album tones.

Took the Express lane home today

Congrats on the new amp! Any chance of sound clips?

Who is your Fav. mesa player/endorsee?

John Petrucci followed by John Petrucci and in third place...John Petrucci! Did I mention John Petrucci?
  5. E

    a technical question.

Hi there It's most likely the compression, coupled with the differential alteration of "mid" pitch frequencies caused by the boost/compression. If you mess around with your mid tone control on your amp, you can get the same effect - more mid seems "stiffer" than less (I think it's that way round).

    Stiletto Reviews Please

I've had my Stiletto Ace for nearly 3 months now and I get more and more impressed with it each day! I use it almost entirely with my MusicMan JP6 guitars and you can really get that mid-rich tone that's on the verge of harmonic feedback and at volume levels that are so quiet for such a...

    Effects Loop Noise

Hi there Could you give us a bit more information about what effects are you using in the loop? Cheers!

Tried out an ACE today...... WOW!!

I love my Ace combo - it is my favourite Mesa amp ever! Great for the bark and bite of those EL34s and the clean channel is also lovely. I don't think you'll be disappointed!

    Whats your favorite Boogie!!!

Sorry to break the Mark-series mood, but I love the Stiletto Ace Combo - crystal cleans, crunchy (er...) crunch, and dollops of dirt when required. And it doesn't have too many controls to addle my poor brain either...(not a criticism BTW).

    Lost 2 channels

Unfortunately they don't make valves/tubes like they used to - the build quality QC at the manufacturers is poor in comparison to what it used to be. I've also had Groove Tubes crap out on me for no apparent reason and they're supposed to be well tested, graded etc. If you can go the the NOS...

    I've finally joined the ranks..

Hi there Congrats on the amp and welcome to the Board! Most people find that one isn't enough...

    Pedals with Lonestar Classic?

Hi there I haven't used any distortion or OD pedals with mine, as the amp doesn't really need any help and I tend to run it as my "clean" channel. If I did, I would probably use my Fulltone Mosfet Fulldrive 2... I also use a hint of ChoralFlange as well as a Tube Tape Echo with mine for FX and...

?? Brand new Roadster up in SMOKE !!

Funny thing is my brain crackled, smoked and exploded when I tried to work how to use the Road King...and I couldn't get it repaired or replaced either! Just kidding - sorry to hear about your amp - but I'm sure you won't regret it in the long run! The Road King II looks like the bogs dollocks!

    Help with power supplies

Get the Voodoo labs power supply - it is the quietest and most versatile supply out there. I've had the DC Brick and the transformers and isolation facilities are just not the quality of the VL. It was cheaper but noisier - I've just got the new version 2 and it is Ace!

A\B\Y box for Mesa Rectifiers and another amp

The Framptone series available from Robert Keeley electronics are the best I've ever used (IMHO the Lehle series are very noisy and the ground lift doesn't work too well). The Framptone is the bog's dollocks...

    F-50 vs. Stiletto Ace

Hi there I used to own an F50 (a long time ago) but have recently got the Stiletto Ace, as like you I crave that EL34 bark and bite. Having said that, the F50 is one of the best amps around, so I would think about switching... I think you hit the nail on the head in your post - they are very...

    My Roadking II head review.

Nathan28 You're so right about using the amp as an instrument. I don't know many other amps that respond so much to changes in the controls as Mesa's do...whilst that may discourage the casual plug n play crowd, it does mean that if you spend the time, you'll get great tone.

    New Rig in the works

I'd heartily recommend auditioning the Stiletto Ace - I've got more sounds out of it than any other amp I've owned - from the 60s through to modern day stuff. It would be my "desert Island amp" (despite the lack of electricity...)

Can you convert a combo into a head?

E_R that's some really nice woodwork on the conversions - I love the jointing. Pity I can't do it myself...

    My Roadking II head review.

Thanks for the great review - you have a shedload of great amps - methinks you like Rectifiers... Interesting point about the noise gate - I used to have Cornford amps and I needed a noise gate but now I've switched to Mesa LSC and Stiletto Ace I've been able to get rid of it - one less pedal...
