2 chan dual rec tube issue?

Power tubes? Isn't it more of a preamp tube issue?

2 chan dual rec tube issue?

I've had a mid 90's dual rec for a long time and currently it has a "Dougs Tubes" cocktail of tubes in it. His preamp mix and 4 matched ruby power tubes. I use the silicon diodes for the rectifier section... The tubes are about 4 years old and the amp has started making a hissing, swirling sound...

    2 chan dual recto issues

Thanks for the suggestions. I've messed with it a little and I get the "blanket over my amp" sound when I turn the presence down that much (and the treble up to compensate) I've ordered some new tubes (Doug's recommendations) so We'll see what the outcome is. Since I normally run the clean...

    2ch dual recto

For me, the fastest way was to remove the 4 screws on the bottom of the head, remove the aluminum "tube protector bar," slide the whole chassis out and look inside. There should be a month/year date written in marker on the inside. -Even on my black chassis, the date was written in black marker...

    wattage question for the guru's

I feel like the Fonz when he needed to say he was wronnnn... wro.... wrong. -not that I feel that I was wrong, but perhaps there would be a better suited amp for me. Here's the hard part. I hear tones on recordings that I love. I know they're Mesa's too. The problem, is that while I love those...

    wattage question for the guru's

Thanks for the mph/horsepower analogy. I understand that. Would you say that low watt tube amps have their place with folks who don't specialize in playing metal? -or don't need the hugely overdriven low end? Say I normally use my DR's clean channel and use a pedalboard for my...

    wattage question for the guru's

I've seen a trend where guitar players are moving toward low wattage amps so they can get that tube breakup and sound at low volumes. Are the days of the 100 watt amp cranked to 11 going away? I know with my situation I can't play my dual recto like that. I'm seeing companies like Stulce amps...

    2 chan dual recto issues

I should also say that I have the power switch on "bold" and I'm using the diodes instead of the tubes for rectum-fication. All this for those touch dynamics I talked about before. The additive effect of all my settings are probably what's making my amp fizzle... -Fo Shizzle

    2 chan dual recto issues

Ok... by the way, I opened her up yesterday, and she was made 8/99 on my clean channel (orange, set to clean) master 9:00 or 10:00 depending on what the engineer lets me get away with presence 3:00 bass 3:00 mid 12:00 treble 2:00 gain 9:00 These settings sound the best to me using my pedalboard...

    2 chan dual recto issues

Hey everyone! I can't believe I haven't come across this board sooner... Anyway, I'm a tube amp noob, and I've been using a 2 channel dual recto (with a 2x12 recto cab) that I bought used. I noticed that the tubes in V1-V5 (power tubes?) are groove tubes. I know this is not stock. All the other...
