Broken English should be the first red flag.

Finding "that" Mesa sound: How do Mesa amps feel in general? (compared to an 800?)

Marks are great if you want great clean tones and that Metallica-style tight dry gain. It doesn't sound or feel anything like an 800 though. It won't cut through a live band mix near as well because of the compression.

    Dual Rectifier characterizations

A Mark at whisper volumes still sounds pretty kill. They have that hi-fi thing already, so not much difference btwn my Mark IV at low volumes and Axe Fx III to be honest. My Triple and Double at low volumes isn't even worth turning on.

    Dual Rectifier characterizations

Depends what you mean by bedroom volume. The Multi's sound great at loud TV volumes. If you turn it down to whisper volumes it's too bright and thin. As far as wattage, there's no real appreciable difference between 50w and 100w in the bedroom - both are loud. 100w will sound slightly fuller. If...

    Dual Rectifier characterizations

    I'd start with a MultiWatt.

My Studio Caliber DC-2 is different than the manual

I had a DC-2 in college. Sounded great at home but could never get it to sit (or be heard) in a live band mix. The gain was too smooth. Wish I still had it tho.

Should Mesa Have Called it Something Else?

Just to be pedantic... I agree with nu-meal, but grunge? I'm having trouble naming top bands at the forefront of the Grunge era that used Rectos. Seems like they came later as Grunge was phasing out into NuMetal. Nirvana: Mesa Studio Pre -> DS1 Smashing Pumpkins: 2204 -> Big Muff Alice in...

    Dual rect Multi-watt strange hum

As far as bypassing the Rectifier Tubes with the switches on the back, this made no difference in my hum. It still hummed when the switches were set to Silicone Diodes. However, it was still the Rectifier tubes causing the noise. The noise was coming from the amp itself, not through the...

    Dual rect Multi-watt strange hum

I had the same issue with a used Multi-Watt I picked up recently. Turned out to indeed be a Rectifier tube. Replaced both from a spare Triple and it went away instantly. Can't comment on pulling tubes.

NAD: Mesa Boogie Mark VII head. WOW

IMO, Stereo is a lot easier (and sounds better) if you just go full W/D/W and add in a stereo power amp instead of slaving another tube amp. I wish I would have picked up a Matrix GT800FX years ago.

Mark IV - Full Service Tune-Up

Mike sent me an RMA number so maybe the timing was right. I'm going to send it back to him for a full fresh. As far as "mods"... what type of mods were people sending the IV back in for?

NAD: Mesa Boogie Mark VII head. WOW

The secret to a Mark IV combo was to order a new Mark IV Headshell from Mesa like I did.

Mark VII owners - how’s it going?

Mesa said to take it to a local tech. I'm afraid the local techs in my area (Nashville) won't know how to do it properly. Nashville is a Fender town.

NAD: Mesa Boogie Mark VII head. WOW

Does it finally rival a real Mark IV's lead channel?

Mark VII owners - how’s it going?

So I think my Mark IV is finally dying. I sold my V b/c the lead channel felt like a Fractal Model of the IV. Way too compressed and didn't have near the aggression or thump of the real IV. Did the VII finally nail it?

Mark IV - Full Service Tune-Up

My Mark IV was built in 1996 and has started to experience some common signs of wear and tear. I think it's time to send her in for a full refresh. I won't be sending the amp back to Mesa, but will be sending it to a local authorized Mesa repair tech in Nashville. I'm experiencing the...

Odd Design Choices: Why is Mark IV Volume Pot so Sensitive?

Just out of curiosity, what do you think the design philosophy behind the Mark IV's extremely odd volume taper was? You can't really turn it like a volume knob, you have to kinda nudge it with the side of your finger to make micro-adjustments else it goes from silent to too loud. Was that...

    Something new on the way?

They glossed right over the Mark VII mode. Something seems amiss with this release. It is the post-Gibson era Mesa afteral.

    Mark VII?

Kinda let down to be honest. At least with these early demos. They just glossed right over the Mark VII mode.

    The Mark IV thread....!!

Anyone use the Slave Out on their Mark IV? If so, where do you keep the Slave Level knob set?
