    5:50 clean channel hissing.

If the cause of the excessive hiss on the clean channel is from within the 1st gain stage of the pre-amp why is it generally accepted the 5.25 has more hiss than the 5.50 when they use the same pre-amp circuit?

    Tube Issue

My amp is about 4 years old and has the original tubes fitted still. The pre amp valves are indeed a mixture of Chinese and Russian. They are all marked "Mesa Boogie" but have made in China or Russia indicated. The Russian ones are indeed Sovteks and the Chinese are no doubt Shuguang. Mesa...

    Old 5:50 & 5:25 switching question

Reply from Mesa: Hi Marc, The 3 position mini toggle allows manual selection the Channels when the Footswitch is not connected. When the switch is in the CH. 1 (switch up) position Channel 1 will be activated and the green LED will be illuminated. The center position labeled FTSW activates...

    Old 5:50 & 5:25 switching question

Can anyone tell me if when you have the footswitch connected and the toggle switch on the front panel set up to ch 1 should the footswitch still function as normal? On mine I can switch between ch 1 and ch 2 with the footswich with the toggle set to ch 1 or with the toogle set to fsw (middle...

    Lack of EQ

The preamp circuit which contains the tone stack (eq controls) is identical on the 5:50 and the 5:25. The tone controls on both amps behave exactly the same. Only the power amp circuits are different between the two.

Fender Mustang II and III compared to Mesa 5:25 and 5:50?

I have an Express 5:50 1x12 combo and a Mustang III and I think the Mustang compares very favourably to the Mesa. Yes of cause the Fender is cheaply made as you would expect for the price but it does sound very good when you spend some time dialling in the tones you need and it is easily...

    Express Output Transformer

Hi, just read somthing today about the 5:50 o/p transformer. Someone was suggesting to steer clear of the 5:50 as the size of the o/p transformer was bound to make it prone to failure as it was dramatically undersized for a 50W amp. Just wondered if anyone had experienced any failures.

    Express Output Transformer

Thanks for the explanations. I was just curious as i'm more than happy with the tone i'm getting so not considering changing anything. No problems with loud cleans either! M

    Express Output Transformer

Hi, I purchased an Express 5 50 a couple of months back and am loving it. I do wonder however why the ouput transformer (not the choke) is so small compared to most other 50W valve amps. I've seen 25W amps with bigger transformers. It sounds great so makes no difference but just wondered given...
