EL34 vs. 6L6 in Mark IV

In terms of bias idle heat dissipation EL34s don't run hot in a Mk iv they run pretty cold, even in those outer sockets., which, although hotter than the inner ones, are still designed for 6l6.

Anyone prefer the Mark IV to the Mark V... Why?

The comment about r2 finding finesse is right on. I have been finding this channel better and better the more I lower the gain. I have it at about 4 now, and it's a great semi-clean edge of breakup. When I was trying to use it as a 'crunch' channel with gain settings of 8-10 I couldn't get it...

Mark IV - odd tube combinations

thanks for the comments, I think my problem with the 4 6v6 ihas been with the particular tubes I have. They are JJ's and they idle in the middle slots at 3 mA. I also subbed an old GE that I have in one of these slots, and it idled at 5. I think one must needs really high idle current tubes in...

Going to simulclass with these tubes really hurts the sound because the middle...

I turned my MK IV up to ten last night

First post - The highest I've ever had my MKIVa/EV combo was 8 at full power (ind. masters were probably only on 3-4 though) at a show in a huge VFW hall This band was insanely loud and I was constantly trying to get the rest of them to turn down, which was futile. The thing is, depending on the...
