    Roadster Presence Question

I tried out a Roadster today at the store, and I noticed something strange about the presence on channels 3 and 4. Channel 3 seemed to have WAY more presence. To make it equal out, I had channel 3 at 11 o' clock and channel 4 was maxed all the way. Was this amp just a dud, or is that actually...

Physical difference between Dual and Triple Rectifier

Dang, is that it? I was hoping there would be a more noticeable difference (when looking from the front).

Physical difference between Dual and Triple Rectifier

This may seem like an odd question, but is there any difference between the Dual and Triple Rectifier appearance-wise? (besides the words 'Dual' or 'Triple' printed on the front) ... I ask because I want to know what kind of amp I'm seeing in a picture, and it's too far away to read the...

    Road King and Roadster "darkness"

How more specific? I'm talking about a version 2, if that helps.

    Road King and Roadster "darkness"

After reading a lot of reviews, everyone says that a Roadster is a darker sounding amp than a dual/triple recto. Does this mean that the Road King is also a darker sounding amp? Just curious... because of all the things I've read, nobody has mentioned the Road King having that quality.

    Dio live guitar sound

If it is actually a Marshall, he must've replaced everything that was originally in it. But I'm still not completely convinced... maybe he slapped a Marshall logo on another amp haha.

    Dio live guitar sound

But I still hear a low end growl like a Rectifier. And what makes it sound so HUGE? Stereo chorus?

    Dio live guitar sound

In this live Dio video, it shows Doug Aldrich using Marshall amps, but I've never heard a Marshall in my life that sounds like this. In my opinion, it sounds more Mesa-ish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gobvyeh_yiA ... and here's a different song with the same sound...

Roadster, Dual Rectifier or Triple Rectifier

Awesome! In these forums, I've read a lot about people using Maxon808 OD pedals with their Roadsters to "tighten up" the sound. Since I'm not really a speed metal player, would you still recommend one?

Roadster, Dual Rectifier or Triple Rectifier

Thanks for the info. Everyone has been very helpful with answering questions. I like the guy's tone in this video (he used EL34's)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIvuBaDAPyk Can a Roadster and a Rectifier cab pull that sound off? Or does the Alien cab make all the difference?

Roadster, Dual Rectifier or Triple Rectifier

Oh, and I've been reading (and listening)... and it sounds like EL34 tubes give Boogies a brighter sound and tighter bass than 6L6's. Do Roadsters come with EL34's in them? If not, are there any brands besides Mesa tubes that wouldn't void the warrenty?

Roadster, Dual Rectifier or Triple Rectifier

Ok, I agree with you on that. I know some people who have been playing longer than me too, (who don't know crap). So let me rephrase... 9 years of hard work. It's actually been 10 years now, because it was a summer when I started. (I've just gotten used to saying 9 years when people ask me). By...

Roadster, Dual Rectifier or Triple Rectifier

I'll look into the 5150 III. I've heard good and bad things about it. I guess the only way to know is to take it for a test drive. Considering that 9 years is more than half of the time I've been alive, I'd say I know a little of what I'm talking about. I'm new to Mesa amps obviously, which is...

Roadster, Dual Rectifier or Triple Rectifier

I'm not too fond of the idea of having distortion pedals messing with the true sound of an amp. I like the EVH approach. "If you have a quality guitar and a quality amp, you shouldn't need any extra distortion or overdrive pedals." (I was paraphrasing there) And about having the gain on 10...

Roadster, Dual Rectifier or Triple Rectifier

We must not be hearing the same guitar sound. They use several different ones on that track. And I found it on the spot to provide a second example of a modern-type tone. As for other stuff I play, I like Van Halen (obviously), Giant, KISS, Skid Row, Motley Crue, and pretty much any 80's hair...

Roadster, Dual Rectifier or Triple Rectifier

Oh, and I checked the music video. I see a Mesa logo on the cabs. It may not mean they used one, but that's the actual guitarist that played on the track.

Roadster, Dual Rectifier or Triple Rectifier

I never said I was a huge Paramore fan. I just thought that particular tone sounded pretty heavy. Would you go with the Roadster then? Versatility would be a plus for me.

Roadster, Dual Rectifier or Triple Rectifier

So, I'm guessing that a slant cab would be best for me? I do a lot of live playing, and if I'm ever recording, I could just mic one of the bottom 2 speakers.

Roadster, Dual Rectifier or Triple Rectifier

Honestly, there's no way that the problem is my pickups. I've got an Ibanez rg770DX with IBZ Dimarzio pickups. And on top of that, I have 4 other guitars with different pickups as well, but the amount of gain still sounds the same.

Roadster, Dual Rectifier or Triple Rectifier

Well, the old 2 channel isn't really an option for me. I need at least 3 channels in an amp. So what's changed since the old ones?
