    Mark IV vs Mark V

    MKV + Mini Amp Gizmo/Mastermind

The Mesa cable for the MKV footswitch has 8 pins. It's not a midi. Let's say your multieffects send midi Program Change command when you change patches. Those PC command are sent to the the Mini Gizmo via a midi cable to the midi-in. Since the MiniAmp Gizmo remembers what you want for that patch...

My first day with the Mark V and I'm really underwhelmed

After 2 1/2 years living with the Mark V I finally had to admit that I was more of a Marshall guy then I thought. I bought my first Marshall (JVM410H) and never looked back so I sold the Mesa. Depends on style of music and all I guess. As a bonus I now can switch channels and modes from my GT-10...

couple of quick observations and questions

 First you "have" to connect 4ohms in the 4 ohms, that's it! Once you do that I felt 1 cable was simpler (not better) just the wrong choice of word.

couple of quick observations and questions

Oh! Oh! You should'nt connect the two 8ohms speakers in the two 8ohms outputs. Those outputs are the same output. You end up connecting 2 8ohms in parallel which gives you 4 ohms you have an unsafe mismatch!! Better connect those in the 4ohms output or better a single cable from the 4ohms output...

mesa WONT warranty groove tube equipped amps

It's written in the manual...so... You'll need to swap back to original tubes when you bring it back to the shop. That's what I had to do. What a pain in the neck.

    About to jump ship

The 3 modes are very different for a given channel. From green to yellow to red the gain increases and sometime additional gain stage in added. The difference between the OD1 and OD2 channels is more an EQ thing where the OD2 is voiced more modern with a different MID frequency.

    About to jump ship

I just saw your other post. When I first used the JVM at home I tried the XLR out to board to record or jam with some backing track I was flabergasted I well it sounds for lead parts. I wich I could buy an other one to keep at home but most of the time I leave it at the rehearsal studio. So...

    About to jump ship

Well I'm not the reference when it comes to Marshalls (it's my first one) but the 2 channels JVM is supposed to be a mix from the JVM410 of clean/crunch and the OD2. The JVM410 crunch covers with three mode (Plexi, JCM800, modded JCM800). Over at the JVM Forum seems that the JCM800 and modded...

    About to jump ship

Just a quick update on this saga. I tried a nice Empress Multidrive to get where I was heading. Meaning in the Satriani/Gary Moore type of sound. I gave up and purchased a JVM410H about 2 months ago. As we all know there no single amp that will do everything. Both JVM and Mark V are exceptional...

    1x12 16ohm ext

You'd have to connect both speakers in the other 4 ohms outputs. Being in parallel the resulting load of a 8ohms and a 16 ohms would be 5.3ohms too low to connect on the 8ohms so it would be a safe mismatch to connect both in the 4 ohms outputs.

    Mark V Footswitch

It's a finicky connector. The most annoying aspect of the whole amp. Simply a bad choice of parts and design (for the connectors not the footswitch itself).

MIDI Switching Control for Mark V

MiniAmp Gizmo used with their special MarkV cable. Works great.

    Cabinets Ohm match

You're absolutlety right! What I was planning to connect were loads that were higher than those but still safe mismatched if taken individually. My memory tricked me thanks for clarifying.

    Cabinets Ohm match

Dom! I was told once by Mesa that you cannot use both type simultaneously. That was not supported. That only the scenario described in the manual was allowed (with some variation of course for different speaker's loads). I found the reply to an inquiry I made describing exactly the use of both...

    Cabinets Ohm match

You can't plug the cabs as is. A 8ohms and a 4 ohms in parrallel gives you only an overal load of 2.66 ohms which is to low to run safely. You could make yourself a special cable to serialize them it would give you 12 ohms which is safe to run in the 8 ohms output. In this case, if you have a...

For those hobbiests who play their V at home

Thanks APEMAN! I feel more confident now. Interesting. As for the 10 watts, without resorting to the schematics the simple tube diagram at the end of the manual indicates which two tubes are used. As far as I can remember the discussions/posts the 10W settings works as some sort of a pseudo...

For those hobbiests who play their V at home

First the manual say 10W used 2 tubes in a special configuration (one inner and one outer tube). Second, the whole discussion about the output load is somehow incorrect I think. The signal is amplified par the preamp stage than the power stage. The resulting signal is feed to the output...

    Mark V Slave output

The signal is tapped directly from the speaker wires but is like not filtered by it. You need a box like the Hugh&Kettner redBox of the Behringer GI100 that does speaker emulation OR you feed it through some other processing board for recording with fancier speaker sims....
