hey guys, i was wondering about a good tube to put in the drive stage of a mesa boogie triple rect 3 channel. in play mostly heavy metal and hard rock. i have heard that tungsol 12ax7 is pretty good.

does it matter much if the speaker cab is slanted or straight with mesa boogie. i heard that the straight cabs have baffeling in them. how much of a difference do you all think it makes?

i moved the 85 and the 81 around. that really made a difference. messed with the amp a little bit more and found a pretty good tone with it now. thanks guys.

it sounds like the power tubes to me. if you hear microphonics while playing and then you replace the power tubes and it went away, it sounds like that was it. one way to tell is to tap the power tubes while it is on. if you hear a bass sound without struming, that is most likely it.
