    LSC speaker question

Talked to Mesa about this today. Their response was that everything was overbuilt in these amps and should be able to take the additional load as the amps work harder driving 8ohms. There is a noticable difference in feel and sound with 8ohms vs. 4 ohms at 50ish watts (I run it in tweed mode...

Forgot to switch bias switch... did I damage the amp?

I had the same thing happen a couple of years ago and called Mesa. All should be well.

    LSC speaker question

Ya...The 212 has 2 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel for an 8 ohm load. However on the back and in the manual it suggests running out of the 4 ohm jack if you are running both channels at 50 watts. That's the question. The manual does suggest messing with mismatching loads so it SHOULD be fine...

    LSC speaker question

...any idea why it says what it says on the back and in the manual? My sense is that 8ohms makes the amp work a tad harder...but it shouldn't make that much difference.

    LSC speaker question

Hey all...it appears it is recommended that you use the 4ohm speaker output if you run both channels at 50 watts (that recommendation is somewhere in the manual and on the back of the amp). I actually like the sound using the 8ohm output....but am not sure if I can do that. Can I?

    EL34s w/ Bias Selector positioned for 6L6

They are heavy--especially the combos. But after years of working with these amps I still think they are great. Even great unmodified (and mine is not). I am using 6L6s now...but am contemplating the move BACK to EL34s. Although I like the tone I have now. Interestingly I have have struggled...

    EL34s w/ Bias Selector positioned for 6L6

I actually did the same thing a couple of years ago and called Mesa with the same question. Not a problem they say as well.

    Tube life

Actually just got off the phone with the good people at Eurotubes. They maintain (and I don't think this is just for them to make money) that preamp tubes start noticeably loosing life and top end after 18 months of playing under normal (once or twice a week) gigging or practicing conditions at...

    Tube life

I'd never heard that. I had been changing everything once a year until this year. It gets freakin expensive. I do play always in the 50 watt mode. It's been about a year and a half. I'm going to switch the inside and outside tubes around this week.

What brand power tubes are you using in your lonestar?

I use JJ 6L6 GCs from Eurotubes in my LSC too. Love those guys. Tighter bottom end and more sparkle on top for one thing. I never thought of trying the higher gain option for preamp tubes. I need a bit of breakup on channel 1 too and don't like cranking the gain. I have tended to get closer to a...

    Tube life

Just curious how often you all replace power and preamp tubes. I have a LS Classic and run it most of the time in tweed mode at 50 watts. Rarely does the master volume go above half also. I gig 20-25 times a year, although this year it was more. This summer I had one or two gigs a week. Should...

Sweet, Sexy, Bold, Chimey......Running all 6V6's in my LSC

I'm assuming you use the 6L6 setting for bias, correct? Tell me more about power output, settings, etc. Sounds like what I am looking for. I am using 6L6s and would love sort of that overdriven Deluxe on steroids sound and I'm close...but not exactly there.

Help with channel switching issue on LSC

Hey all, At a gig last night my LSC suddenly developed an issue. When I switch from channel 1 to channel 2 and then try to return to channel 1...I suddenly have VERY low power on that channel. If I mess around with the input (for the foot switch) I will hear it click and fully engage but if I...

JTM45/Marshall like tones from a LS

This is the proverbial Reeder mod, right? I may do that. I am trying to find a tech I trust. Not many in my neck of the woods...in fact none for 300 miles or so. I would rather not get into the inside of that amp if I can help it. I've read posts on this mod, but could you break it down simple...

JTM45/Marshall like tones from a LS

I did a bunch of playing this weekend and hit on some things. screamingdaisy made a suggestion in another thread about using the treble control to shape the tone and the using presence control more as the overall "treble". I always used presence in the 10-11 range because I thought it would...

    Lonestar????

I used JJ E34Ls (a version of EL34s) from Eurotubes for awhile and never had any problem with overheating. Eurotubes will match tubes to specific amps and if you look at their website you will find the Lonestar listed. I just called them though and gave them all the information. Great customer...

JTM45/Marshall like tones from a LS

I tried 34s. This amp is SO mid heavy they just became ponderous. Plus I use a Les Paul and other humbucker type guitars and this amp, especially on channel 2 just struggled. So much mids I couldn't dial it back. Went back to 6L6s and just set channel 2 on Thicker setting to change the character...

JTM45/Marshall like tones from a LS

Just curious if anyone has hit on some things that are similar to this on channel 2. I have not done any mods and really don't plan to right now. Anyone have a setting that comes close?

LSC vs Fender Super Sonic 22

I actually just messed with a Fender super sonic at a store. It isn't bad. It reminds me of some of the decent modelling amps I have played. That said...it is not a Lonestar. Mesa build quality and attention to details are first class and this amp is a great amp...maybe one of their best...
