How do GT's compare to the JJ 6l6s? I'm in need of some new 6l6s (now that I realized that the 6V6 is not for me). 6l6's just seem to mix better with a strat...

If it sounds muddy, you may want to back off on the bass like brewski said. On my mark iv I can never really dial it past 3. Besides all the other suggestions made, new tubes could make a difference...

I don't think the triode/pentode thing matters, although I'm running triode. Sounds very sweet.

Hey thanks marklyn. Yeah, I was already on that... I've been thinking about it for a while now too, so I've been researching. Due to the shipping mix up, I still haven't gotten them in the mail yet. Hopefully today though, and I'll be sure to rock out all night and post what I think of them.

Actually I had the wrong tubes shipped to me... gotta wait another few days till the 6v6s get here. I'll let you all know when I get them in and try them out.

My JJ 6v6s just showed up at my door step! Those of you who have installed them, how should I dial in my settings as compared to the 6l6s?

What is more useful? I'm into building my own pedals, and I just did a compressor that I loved. So now I'm trying to decide what to make next, a phaser or chorus pedal? Curious what you guys think..

I'm considering buying some JJ 6v6s for my mark iv. Everyone seems to enjoy them... does anyone have any problems with them? Thanks.

srf399- I find that when I switch between Class A and Simulclass, I have to re-dial everything along with that. I don't think a footswitch for this option is really that important.

If it happens on all channels, its the power tubes. If it happens on only one channel, its probably that pre-amp tube.

I haven't tried the DC, but my best advice is this. Go try both. No matter what anyone else tells you it will sound different to you. :D

How's the low end? Is there still plenty of head room for the clean?

I believe the hotter the tube runs, the quicker it will break-up. Running tubes too cold will make it sound very sterile though..so be careful.

Unless I have the amp cranked, I can't really tell a major difference when swapping power tubes, unless it is from 6l6 to el34..etc. Pre-amp tubes have a much larger impact.

Dasein- Caps are the cylndrical blue objects in the picture posted above by RussB. Don't go poking around in there though unless you know what you are doing.

The other positions will affect tone, V1 having the most impact. I don't own a DC-5 so I don't know the details, but I'm assuming that each pre-amp tube handles the tone for each channel...but this isn't a four channel amp.... are you sure there are 6 pre-amp tubes? not 5?

You'll be happy with them. The only other thing I would suggest trying is some NOS stuff as far as pre-amp tubes, just because they are fairly easy to find, and can offer a lot of versatility in tone. But go with JJ power tubes, just because bob at eurotubes can really tailor them to your needs.
