I think that the preJCM2000 Marshalls are bad ***! I used to own a JCM 900 2500 50 watt Master Volume head, with a 1960A cab (GT12-75's)back when I played in a punk rock band. Although it didn't have the versatility of the Mesa Mk series, it did what it did well. (It had the "Dookie" era...
Here' my line up:
1)'85 Mesa/Boogie Mk III Simulclass long head (black tolex) through a Marshall 1960AV 4-12 (I *heart* Vintage 30's)
2)'82 Mesa/Boogie MkIIb "blonde" combo, 60 watts, reverb, no eq. (Celestion GT12-75 is in it right now, but I'm putting the original EV back in)
3)'59 Fender...
Anyone have any good pointers on cleaning the tweed on my Fender "59 Bassman Reissue? I tried some Shout & scrubbed it with a brush & rinsed it with a wet towel, but I'm not impressed with the results. I may try Oxyclean with it later.
Also, is there a Fender amp forum anywhere?
I'd recommend a EH Big Muff Pi (Made in NYC) reissue. In my opinion, I think it sounds even better than the original (less noisy too) and sounds warmer than the Russian made ones as well. It's very rude and raw sounding, me likes it:-)
I've been considering getting Sperzels for my Les Paul too. But I think I'll have a tech put mine on. I'm nervous about drilling any holes in mine
I'm thinking about retubeing my amps with some Svetlanas. On Musician's Friend's website, they offer 3 options: Hard/Blue, Medium/Green, and Soft/Red. Now, I know that in the Groove Tubes grading system, 4 thru 6 is supposed to be ok for Boogies. Am I to assume that Svetlana has a simular...
I have a Messa Boogie MKIIb that I've owned for number of years, & am getting back into playing more seriously after a long hiatus. This amp kind of always sounded a little odd, but after reading this post I thought I'd check the output tubes. It had a pair of Groove tubes marked "H1"!
I...
I bought a Gibson Les Paul Classic with a repaired broken headstock about a year and a half ago for $600, and it sounds better and stays in tune better than my Les Paul Custom without the damage/repair.....go figure.... 8)
I've owned many pedals from different mfg's, and I've had 2 Boss pedals that have died on me, (a HM-2 "Heavy Metal" distortion and a SD-1 "Dual Overdrive", I didn't like the way either of them sounded anyways) but I've never owned a DOD pedal that has failed to operate. I have a Boss DD-3...
Anyone here have any experiences with these? I bought one used last weekend & put it in the fx loop on my MkIIb with my US made '57 Strat R.I., it defineatly took out the noise from that guitar, but I found that it took away some of the top end sparkle as well, (That might be corrected by...
I agree, it sounds like a mk I, but I'd be more concerned about getting the filter capacitors replaced before changeing tubes, the tubes may still be just fine, but it wouldn't hurt to change them.
I'd put my Les Paul Classic(Mahogany with maple top), my US '57 Reissue Fender Strat (Alder body), and even my '85 Kramer Pacer (Maple body) against any "artist model" Ibanez or Peavey any day......IMO, basswood bodies combined with a Floyd Rose style tremolo are recipes for uninspiring sounding...
So, what makes the "export" power transformer so special? Is it a "desireable" rarity? Does that enhance the value or collectability of it?
Thanks for clarifing where the OT is, I'll check it here in the next couple of days. (It's at my friend's studio, so I don't have instant access to it at...
I put a Boss GE-7 eq pedal(7 band, btw) in my fx loop on my mk IIb (non eq) combo, it really seemed to "squash" out the sound. I was able to notch out some alot of the extreme mids and add a tighter low end, but the amp overall lost it's "liveliness", taking the warmth away & it just didn't...
I am a bit confused abut my MkIII long head that I bought a couple of weeks ago. It has a "Simulclass Power" sticker above the power cord on the back of the chassis, but has the "fullpower-1/2 power" switch on the front. It is has 4 6L6's in the power section (STR-430's in the outer sockets &...
I go to the Musician's Friend clearence center (in Kansas City) and buy mine there (Fender Bullets for my strats, Martin strings for my acoustic, D'Addario XL's for everything else). They sometimes sell them (as well as other merchandise) at below their catalog prices, and no shipping (just...
Yes, $3,000 is way to exsessive for a guitar with a basswood body (yucck!). I mean, c'mon, you'd think for that price you think that they'd at least put an alder or an ash body on those....basswood has to be the most toneless, dead sounding wood out there.
If I was in the market for that...
I just bought an MkIII 60/100 Long head today, i think it might be a black stripe/dot (correct me if i'm wrong). I'm running it through a Marshall 1960AV (Vintage 30's, oh yeah!) cab....I absolutely love the tone of this beast!!...Its has the metal tone i've been looking for....I'll post pics in...
