Okay, what vintage amp would you buy (player content) ...

Just for shits & grins, I looked up that ad on CL. It's marked down to $3250 now...I guess to the right person it would be worth that much...

Okay, what vintage amp would you buy (player content) ...

I've narrowed it down to 3... 1) Eddie Van Halen's Marshall 1959 Super Lead that he used on the first 2 VH albums... 2) The Marshall that Slash used for "Appetite for Destruction" (Supposedly a modified Super Bass) 3) Stevie Ray Vaughn's Fender Super Reverb.. Sorry I didn't list any Boogies...

Metallica Tone Settings - Mark IIC+ (with Pics!)

I would think that running 3 eq's through the effects loop would be somewhat redundant...Like others have said, its not the same as running a 21-band eq. I've never been pleased with the way my amps sound with my GE-7 in the effects loop, and i can imagine adding an additional eq pedal would...

    Strat replacement bridge pickup

I've been toying with the idea of putting a Seymour Duncan JB Jr in one of my strats, might be worth looking into... http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/stratocaster/cutting-edge/jb_jr_sjbj1/

Why do people leave unclipped strings while playing??

When I was like 16 years old I left mine unclipped because Kerry King from Slayer kept his unclipped...I also wanted to wear one of those porcupine looking nail armbands like he wore too.... Now I just think unclipped strings are tacky & unprofessional....But I still think Kerry King's...

    Drop D and low tunings

I was first made aware of drop-d through bands like Soundgarden & Helmet. Anyone remember Helmet? I can't imagine discussing the drop-d tuning without mentioning Helmet...

    What PHASER are you using?

Original script-logo MXR Phase 90, I like it because it sounds warm & it's simple to use....I like to use in in the front of the signal chain,in front of the amp, for that 1st Van Halen album vibe..

    Kirk Hammet's Wah Pedals... (humor)

One would think that someone who was a former pupil of Joe Satriani would be capable of more... I have to admit, Kirk Hammitt was a huge influence in my formidable years, & probably inspired me to use a wah pedal, although nowadays I say it was Jimi......lol There was some cool solo's on...

Metallica Gag Order? Their new albums gag me for sure

I am curious to hear the new album after I heard that Rick Rubin is producing it, instead of Bob Rock. I have alot of respect for Rick Rubin, he's produced a diverse array of artists, from RunDMC to Slayer, to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Johnny Cash. Alot of the albums Rubin has produced I...

    Mesa MK.III (Noob)

While the Mk III is capable of getting some really nice 80's metal type of tones (think Master of Puppets-era Metallica or Whitesnake), I wouldn't call it a metal amp per se. Mine has alot of mids without the 5-band EQ engaged. Some might consider the lead drive stage as sounding "metal", but...

The impact of string gauge on tone

I like .011's on my '57 RI Strat, they seem to work well with the vintage-style single coils. They just seem to add more of a beefier tone than lighter strings. I use Fender Bullets, when I can find them in that gauge (They are kinda hard to find). I think the bullet ends helps with the...

HELP! les paul custom trade for 2 esp's?

I have alot of respect for Japanese-made guitars. The quality is on par with US made guitars, if not even better (There are many out there who feel that the Japanese-made Fenders are as good, if not better than their US-made counterparts) And many of the Japanese Fenders are becoming very...

HELP! les paul custom trade for 2 esp's?

Hetfield does play a Les Paul Custom in the DVD that accompanies the "St Anger" CD, I don't think he plays it to copy anybody or anything, he just plays it because its a good guitar, like so many other players...

    A great neck humbucker is...

Seymour Duncan '59 :D I just replaced the stock Gibson 500t/496r set with a set of '59s in my Les Paul Classic over the weekend, & the honeymoon isn't over yet...the neck pick up is so creamy & warm when played clean. I've also like the way the neck Fender 57/62 in my '57 Strat reissue...

HELP! les paul custom trade for 2 esp's?

Can you please elaborate as to why you think an Ibanez RG is better than a Gibson? Or why I don't need "quotes" around the pro? Personally, I beg to differ....Compared to my Les Paul, that Ibanez sounded "muddy", had very little sustain, & just kinda sounded "dead" & "lifeless". I liked the...

HELP! les paul custom trade for 2 esp's?

You have a point with Metallica. I'm not saying it happens to all rock icons & their guitars, but I have seen it happen with others. Like when Jimmy Page started playing "Kashmir" with a Danelectro on tour with Zeppelin in the late 70's, the values of those started to rise. Or when Eddie Van...

HELP! les paul custom trade for 2 esp's?

I would advise against it. In the long run, both your Les Paul Custom & your SG Standard will hold its value for a few years then will rise in value. The ESP, & especially the LTD, more than likely will not ever increase in value, unless a future iconic rock-god guitar hero starts to play one...

    Vox AC-30 TB6

*UPDATE" OK, after doing further research found out that this was sort of a reissue of the Top Boosts from the 60's, so I decided to take my Les Paul down to the store that I found it at & give it a try. I've never really played around with Vox's much, & I was pleasantly surprised. The...
