My new 1983 Les Paul Custom

Yea, people who think the Norlin years were a dark age in terms of quality are either ignorant or stupid. The later Norlin years had especially good quality and workmanship in the guitars they put out. I'd take a Norlin over any of these new, gutted Les Pauls any day of the week. That is of...

My new 1983 Les Paul Custom

Thanks robredo :). Aren't these older Gibsons just some of the best guitars ever made? If I were you I would have kept the Kahler :P. I don't want to sell those pups because I want to keep my guitar's resale value up :P. Mine weigh's in at 12 pounds, and she's a real shoulder killer lol. The...

My new 1983 Les Paul Custom

New pics up!! I've now installed Seymour Duncan Blackouts and wow, she really roars now. I've installed the knobs already though but these pics were taken right after the rewire and installation so the knobs aren't on in the pics. http://img691.imageshack.us/g/img0354xf.jpg/

    Seymour Duncan Blackouts anyone?

Just an update guys. I've installed the Blackouts in my LP and could not be happier. It just sounds brutal now. I was surprised by how well they handled the cleans too. Really jangly high notes but fairly compressed lows. You need to eq some bass in there but that isn't an issue on Mark V :p...

    Seymour Duncan Blackouts anyone?

I like the active sound but I found EMG's far too "tinny" and thin with too much bite. All n all just harsh sounding and unbalanced. I've heard the Blackouts are good because like the other person who answered the thread said, they cover a "middle ground" between actives and passives. I want the...

A beginners active? In what way?

    Seymour Duncan Blackouts anyone?

I've heard they're like better, more organic sounding EMG's. Anyone ever tried them out?

    What are you guys reading??

Currently reading The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, Fantastic book!

    Which Les Paul?

The dam thing is expensive as hell but plays so nicely on the upper frets.

My new 1983 Les Paul Custom

Oh yea, they're a freaking godsend when it comes to restringing. I didn't realize how awesome a vibrola sounds and feels on a les paul. And I agree, the thing sounds epic. Cleans are bell like on the high strings, piano like on the low ones. The P.A.Fs actually sound great for metal... I didn't...

My new 1983 Les Paul Custom

Yea definitely a great thing to have. They're P.A.F's. The best part though is how much I got it for... $1500!! And she's in 9/10 shape with almost no dings, little to no fret wear, no scratches... And the dude included the pickup covers, locking nut allen key and the whammy bar of course.

My new 1983 Les Paul Custom

What strings are you guys using?

SOB Strings. It stands for Snake Oil Brand strings. They've got some really nice feeling and some of the best sounding strings out there... Not your average D'Addarios here. Be sure to get a couple of sets and give them a try. They have their own custom formulas for string alloys that they use...

    Footswitchable FX loop problem...

Yeah I figured when you asked :P. I actually got the MkV as part of a trade though, so I think it might be a little late to go back to the store, I'll give it a try though. Thanks for the input :).

    Footswitchable FX loop problem...

So for some reason I can't footswitch in my effects loop. The light on the footswitch will come on, but not on the amp, and none of my effects will come on either. The only way I can activate my effects loop is by turning the knob on the back... Any suggestions guys?

New to the forum! And a question about my Mark V head

Hey there, thanks for the response, but I've diagnosed and cleared up the problem. It was a dusty tube socket.

New to the forum! And a question about my Mark V head

Hey guys, proud new Boogie family member here :D after a long time owning Marshalls and couldn't be happier. I have a problem with my clean channel though. The problem is especially amplified (pun intended :P) when I crank it. Theres this sort of fuzziness or static sound whenever I hit a lower...
