    anatomy of a push-pull pot

I broke the shaft of the "middle" pot by trying to remove the knob: I removed the set-screw, pulled... pulled harder, and the shaft came out with the knob still on it. So, now that I've replaced it, I disassembled the broken pot. Photo here...

lead return mod on mark iii head

Ok... I posted some photos on picasa. Hopefully this link will work: http://picasaweb.google.com/112841688694453981440/MesaBoogieRepair?feat=directlink The mod looks fairly sloppy. I've experimented with putting an effect between "send" and "return", which affects all channels, and between...

    mark III repair question

I'm replacing a broken pot: the "middle" control. The mark III schematic that's floating around the web lists it as 10k. I ordered the part from Mesa/Boogie: told them I wanted the "middle" control for a mark III. My meter claims the new one is 8k. But what bugs me is that I just removed the...

    mark iii tubes, settings, ramblings

I've had this mark iii for an embarrassingly long time, and I feel like I'm just learning to use it thanks to this forum, and other resources on the web (e.g. pdf of the manual... that helped). It's a simul-class, with 4 6L6. The manual says this config will lead to premature tube failure, but...

accessing pots on mark iii head

Ah! The front panel is not connected to the case, then; it's part of the chassis. Many thanks!

accessing pots on mark iii head

To take the chassis out, by visual inspection I'd guess this means 1) remove the nuts from all the knobs and switches, and pull the handles off the EQ sliders, 2) disconnect the fan and reverb wires, 3) remove all the tubes to avoid breaking them, 4) remove the four screws on the top of the...

1/2 power switch on mark iii

I note the mark iii manual from Mesa Boogie talks about a class A/simul-class or 60/100 switch on the back panel. Mine has no switch on the back panel, but has a "1/2 power" switch on the front. There is a simul-class sticker on the rear of the amp. Anyone know what this means? I believe it's a...

lead return mod on mark iii head

Is anyone aware of a mod for a lead return on a mark iii? I have a mark iii that has an extra jack with "lead return" taped next to it. Another label, "rhythm return", has been taped next to the usual effects return jack. I'm not entirely sure how it's intended to be used... there's only one...

accessing pots on mark iii head

Can anyone give me an overview of how to get access to the pots? I need to replace one. Does the front panel come off? Do you have to take everything out the back?
