Cool thread. I have and love a .50 Cal+, thinking of picking up the Mark V. It's been years since I've played through one, and I don't really have an opportunity to explore one before purchasing. Is it really so daunting to dial in?

Hey there, How much is an early 93 with the MkIII tranny is worth? The prices on Reverb seem overly optimistic. What issues should I look for when checking out to purchase? Any hints, tips, tricks to setting it up and getting it to sound it's best? Thanks, Bobby

Adding to this long-standing thread. I am the proud new owner of a 1991 Mesa Mark IVa compact combo. I purchased it from the original owner. It came with hang tag, receipt, printed manual, the cardboard sample settings that sits on top of the amp and a cover. It's in excellent condition...

Sounds like you're giving that mini rec a workout! That's the best way to run the lower wattage amps. All out, hit em with pedals for the sustain n other good stuff.

I got one at a discount. I'd now pay full price. It's full, poeerfull, balanced and clear across all frequencies.

Crazy! I just tried out a rivera knucklehead tre yesterday. Was not impressed. An amp *****, but it was noisy and flubby. Good on the pedal tho!

I'm using a modded ts and a Dano cto-1 to boost my dual rec. The dano is a timmy copy, with controls for bass n treble, and sounds more modern. I've read good things about the grid slammer, and get the feeling that it sounds much like the dano. How does it sound on the clean channel? Any bluesy...

Cool thanks for responding. I'll try the Mullard ri in v3 tonight. Any time I've tried tungsol in any other position than v1, it's fried. Sounds good, but doesn't hold up well. Ever try the gold lion, also a new sensor tube?

Thought I'd bump this one up. I just finished rolling some preamp tubes in my Multi-Watt Dual Rec. I have a Tung-Sol in v1, Gold Lion in v2(awesome tube), an older Mullard in v3 (gives channels 2 n 3 raunch!), mesa JJs in v4-5. I want to try a reissue Mullard in v3, but am afraid of frying it...

The Roadster is cool. I had my choice between a Roadster 2x12 combo or this Dual Rec head. I liked the fat and tweed modes on the Roadster, but like channels 2 n 3 on the Dual Rec better than 3 n 4 on the Roadster. Plus, the head/cab setup is better than an all in one, heavy combo. Both are...

Thanks for the welcome! I agree that Dual Rec is great. I can't say it blows away any amp I've had, I've had some killer amps, but is extremely versatile, and I'm loving what it does. What makes an amp great for me is if I'm inspired by it. If I can easily come up with new stuff. So far...
