Recto Vintage Mode Sounds Like A Mark

I play material like this. https://youtu.be/_bzMJYntxKM That album was a Sovtek Mig and a JMP boosted with a ProCo Rat. Last time I saw them it was a Fender boosted with a ProCo Rat and a Mesa Mark 4 or 5. It was ungodly loud but I didn't make out the guitar player's pedalboard that used the Mesa.

Recto Vintage Mode Sounds Like A Mark

Sent my friend a brief sample of my Dual Rectifier. He asked it sounded similar to a Mark since I use an excess amount of low end with practically no treble. I play slow metal kind of stuff (think Sabbath on qualuudes and angry). Would I be better off getting a Mark sooner or later? My settings...

    The dreaded thousand bees!

Yeah I told my friend to crank it. It only sounds better that way otherwise it's fizzy.

    The dreaded thousand bees!

 Yeah he dimed the gain and also complained about articulation. He asked how I get away with diming the gain. I had to explain I play sludgy metal riffs. "It's meant to be a wall of bludgeoning sound." There was just a ton of things that I simply had to end the questions with "this isn't a...

    The dreaded thousand bees!

OK so this is slightly misleading as a topic. I previously posted about my amp being too bright. Not fizzy just bright. I read around the forum that one of the best ways to get a better sound was to open the amp up a bit: the output control. So overall I keep my output near noon and adjust the...

    OD vs. distortion pedal advice

I mix it up occasionally. I love the sound of the head in general but I don't like being stagnate. That being said the pedals I use occasionally is an Electro-Harmonix OD Glove (OCD clone), a Black Arts Toneworks Oath, and a Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh set for no diodes. The Black Arts...

    New Tubes

Yeah, spoke with one of the guitarists that used the Recto. Off and on he used a Recto or his JCM 800 2210 which is a dark amp. Almost bought one from a guy but he was a crack head so I decided not to go to that guy's house again. Anyway the one guitarist told me universally he set his amps...

    New Tubes

I might have some Ruby 12AX7s laying around. I'll try that. One of the local guys at Guitar Center recommended Eurotube's stock of JJs. It's not going to hurt to treat out different tubes except my wallet. I'm constantly learning that this amp isn't like others but love that deep tone. I'm just...

    New Tubes

Just bought my first dual rectifier used. It's an older 3 channel. I love it but want to fine tune it. I've noticed that all the tubes are Mesa brand with EL34s being the only non stock change. I love playing sludgy/stoner rock guitar stuff in Drop A on a Les Paul knock off with Lace Drop N...
