That's exactly what i mean about the 2205. That's where a lot of the mojo is..the power tube distortion. Otherwise we'd all be playing solid state amps that only use tubes in the pre.

All this talk about JCM 800's and i didn't hear anyone mention the 2205. The 2205 in my opinion is the best Marshall has made within the last 20 years or so.

Sounds good to me rockhound. Truth is, nowadays..the classic/hard rock tones are probably as heavy as i'd need 80-90% of the time. As i've gotten older i've come to appreciate tone much more, than over the top balls to the wall distortion. I am/was an old school thrasher though, and ya know...
