Stock 12AX7 tubes in Road King Series II

Which tubes in the Road King II are the standard 12AX7s and which are the SPAX7A. The Mesa site says it puts SPAX7As in all the "critical gain" stages. Thanks

    Power conditioner and tone

I'm sure he is just using a regular power conditioner with just filtering... as voltage regulators cost 5x as much.

What do you think of my lead tone????

Sweet Child of Mine isn't the easiest piece to do for lead. Although I think it would sound better with Reverb and not Delay.

Rectifier precense and treble controls, what khz?

Not sure on the frequencies but yeah if Treble is first in the tone stack it will have effect the mids and bass.

? Pondering the purchase of a Road King head ? Overkill...

I play too many different styles of music to have just one amp. So instead of buying a: Dual Recto Head $1700 FenderHot Rod DeVille 212 $750 Marshall JCM800 Head $2000 Lonestar Head $1600 Why spend $6050 when you can spend $2500 +...

Rectifier: running 6L6 with EL34 BIAS setting

Yea the tubes will run a little hotter... basically your're going to wear your tubes out a lot faster.

    recto effects loop question...

It could be bad AC power going to the 9v DC adapter thats causing the extra noise. Try getting a power conditioner like a Furman M8.

    Hum in a Dual Rec.

+1 to Storm's post Electric Motors, Dimmer Switches, etc all contaminate the power. In addition to added buzz, I've always noticed that when I don't use a power conditioner my low end isn't as tight.

    RKII with Distortion

Uhhh are u serious? You can get sick distortion out of a RKII with no pedals at all! Are u using channels 3 or 4 for your heavy distortion?

    Road King II + AX7

You can't see the 12ax7s because they have those removable metal covers over them. You can change brands of tubes in the Road King like going from Mesa to JJs or whatever. You CANNOT change the tube types though, like making it all EL34s instead of 4 6L6s and 2 EL34s. The amp is fixed biased...

    Dual or Single

I'm using just using the 1 speaker on the closed back side of my RK 2x12 Cab. I have to control my volume a little more, cuz everyone complains I'm too loud. I partly blame this on the fact that I like to cook the tubes and run my output at 11-12:00 with my hotplate @-4db(doesn't change the...

    Dual or Single

The single alone will be too loud for your bedroom. For playing at home without blasting away he neighbors you might want to look into getting a Hotplate. Having a 4x12 Cab over a 2x12 cab will not help your clean channel. Basically a 4x12 will percieve to be loud since you are moving more...

    Next Recto Finding: PICKUPS!

Get yourself a Guitar Bra for that baby before you scratch it all up with your pick. I have one on my Custom 24, and after a year of playing I'm sure glad I have one on there. Its totally removable, and basically the same material that covers the glass on a new wrist watch when you buy it...

    Road King vs. Dual Rectifier

My advice is if you get the Road King don't get the combo... the Road King head alone weighs 75-80lbs which is pretty darn heavy. The combo weighs substantially more (140-150lbs?). The Road King 2x12 cab is around 80lbs too. I'm a pretty strong person and am in great shape and it is still a...

    Tour of Mark Tremonti's Rig

Yea, if you listen to his live videos on youtube they do sound "DI boxish" like they are lacking the tone from speaker movement. Regardless he still has sweet tone.

Road King Tube/Diode Rectifier LED Problem

Hmmm ok... I guess I'll call Mesa one of these days and ask them about it.

Road King Tube/Diode Rectifier LED Problem

I have a Road King Series II Version 1. When I set any of the channels to Silicon diodes the The Diode LED lights up along with the left 5UG LED when that channel is selected. Anyone else have this problem?

Road King II cleans and Fender cleans.

Channel 1 Tweed with 6L6 tubes will give you your fender sound Channel 2 Brit with EL34s and the master volume cranked will give you great classic rock crunch. Channels 3 and 4 speak for themselves since they come from the dual rectos

    Road King 2, v. 2?

They also revoiced some of the channels when they switched from Series I to the Series II. Series II has a much better clean and brit modes.
