    MkV Head in!

I can't get enough of the Mk V. Just came back from rehearsal tonight also, and it's just so freaking articulate and awesome. I'm starting to gravitate toward crunch w. EL34s being my favorite channel at the moment, but I don't know, then I kicked on over the the Mk IV mode for a hot lead line...

    Guitar strings

EB Cobalts are awesome. I put a new set on every week before gigging, and don't mind paying the price at all. I don't like the standard EBs, didn't like D'Addarios, and liked the feel and longevity of Elixer nanowebs, but the action was too stiff and the tone was kinda "meh". I like the...

Using an attenuator with my Express 5:25 - Not going well

Or, if you want a great live sound through the FOH, pick up a Torpedo Live loadbox/cab sim. Some of the best money I've dropped on a rack unit, ever.

which od/distortio pedal do you run in front of your Boogie?

I kicked a butt load off my board when I got the Mark V. I only use two now - a Green Rhino (TS) with the volume maxed and gain off to make the Crunch mode warm and full and to make the Mk IV mode have that compressed liquid legato lead tone. I use reg or high mids boost on a Suhr Koko boost...

    Jimi Hendrix wah tone

If you can get your hands on a Bad Horsie 2, it has built in boost and contour controls that are foot switchable. Great pedal, and love the optical activation.

Which pedals work well with the V? Which don't?

Yes, including (imo) with a Tubescreamer.

what comp for your clean tone?

Anything with a blend knob. The common one's you'll hear folk mention will be the Wampler Ego, Barber Tone Press, Empress comp, and Xotic SP. I use an Xotic set to "low" comp ratio, and the blend anywhere from 45-65% for what you're describing.

I tried a mark V and couldn't dial it in.

I've had mine for about two months now, the head with vertical 2x12 cab, and a few good points have been brought out in this thread: 1) Although it has the ability to sound good at low volumes, it really sounds great opened up at 90watts in a live setting. I've found that this amp, over all...

    Head Making Clicking Noise

Glad to read this happening to someone else, and that the answer seems to be simple. I've had my Mark V head for about a month now, and heard this clicking for the first time last night. Had no idea what it was, and got worried something was going out. I flipped through the footswitch...

Picked up my first Mesa this month - Mk V head

Just wanted to share my joy. I've always had combos, and thought a 90w head would be too much expense and power. Very wrong. This head is the best all around gear purchase I've ever made. Amazing amp, and the features are so rich. Sitting on top is my Two Notes Torpedo Live loadbox/cab sim...

    Leaving Preamp Sleeves Off

Thanks for posting that. I may try it in the future, but just purchased the amp last month, so the idea of cutting into the most expensive head I've ever owned is currently too much to contemplate  Looks good though. And, yes, the Mark V noob that I am, the first thing I did was to...

    Leaving Preamp Sleeves Off

Thanks for that thorough reply! So it sounds like I was almost there, but got stumped at the second nut (which I didn't actually notice). Man, it almost sounds like it would be more simple just to remove the power tubes and do it from the inside, unless you were wanting to avoid cool down times.

    Extreme Makeover 4x12 Edition

    Very nice! I like it.

    Leaving Preamp Sleeves Off

Okay. Thanks. One problem I had though, maybe because I'm a Mesa noob, or maybe because they've begun to add things to the design of the head, but after I took out the four long screws I was still unable to get the chassis out. It looked like there was a screw pole with a foot on both ends...

    Leaving Preamp Sleeves Off

Hey All, I just got my Mk V head a few weeks back, and am loving it. Absolutely the best amp I've ever owned, and is even better in a live mix. My question is this - is there any drawback to leaving the preamp sleeves of the tubes in V1-3? I retubed from stock, and that V1 is a ******* to...
