Converting a combo to a head

Mesa charges a little under $400 for a standard black LS Head Cab. The price goes up if you add colors.

    Lonestar Special vs. Lonestar

You know what? I've head this sort of stuff before. I actually had a dealer try and sell me a different amp once using an excuse like this when I brought up the Lonestar to the conversation. Now, while I suppose a couple of lemons here and there is normal no matter the brand, I don't think...

    Lonestar + Compression?

I was going to get a Barber Tone Press, but ended up with a Keeley. I love it. Works really well with the Lonestar. A compressor is a very subtle effect. (Most of the time). You either like the extra bit of spice, or you don't. But, for the most part you don't need it. Sometimes it can be...

    Re: Extension Cab arrived

I decided I'm not modifying the combo cab into a 2x12 speaker cab. It think it would be too much of a hassle. Mainly because of the cutout in the top panel. I thought about it, and thought about it... and measured, and measured some more... And no... I'm just going to sell it and get a...

    Just bought a Lonestar Classic!

Oh yeah, by the way. We've all seen plenty of LSC's. But... post some photos anyway! I mean, I've seen lots of girls. But I never get tired of seeing some more! ;)

Converting a combo to a head

Keep in mind that oftentimes the actual weight is not the issue. It's the combination of weight and size. I bet any of you guys can easily carry 100lbs, if it fits easily in your arms. The problem with the combos is the weight AND the size. The heads are not lightweight. They are heavy too...

Converting a combo to a head

I actually converted my LSC 2x12 Combo into a Head. I found a guy who was selling an empty Lonestar head cabinet. I'm very happy I did it. I think the head over cab looks cooler than the combo. Plus, it's a lighter load to carry 2 pieces in 2 separate trips, than an entire pig in one trip...

    Just bought a Lonestar Classic!

Congrats man! Some of us here think of the LSC as a Fender on Steroids! I like Fender cleans. But the LSC is just juicier! Plus, the only Fender that I know that'll give me the overdrive I need is the Super-Sonic. I had one. The LSC is 1,000 times better! -D

    lonestar question

Sponginess is that sort of bubbly feel that can be felt while playing. The listener might not necessarily notice it, but an experienced guitarist will. Think of it as sort of a "growth" out of each note, were when you hit the note is sort of feels like it springs out at you and spring back out...

    lonestar question

The amp's going to be very loud even at 10 Watts. I have an LSC 50/100 and I can't say it sounds bad at low volumes even at the 100 Watt setting. It still kills many other great amps out there at this setting. I think the main thing you are going to notice is the feel, not so much the volume...

    Non Mesa 2X12 cab?

I sometimes play mine through an Egnater Tourmaster 2x12 Cab. Sounds different that the Mesa Cab with MC90's. Different, but good different. :) It's $550, about $150 cheaper than the Mesa 2x12.

Does the Reeder Mod make channel 2 cleaner?

I agree with this. The channel still keeps it's distinctive voicing. IE: It's still more throaty and middy than my Egnater Rebel 20. But, that's not a bad thing. I can't expect them to sound the same. But after the mod, the channel is not as dark. Therefore, you can dial in more gain and...

Does the Reeder Mod make channel 2 cleaner?

I also think it makes the channel more clean (if you pull back the gain and turn the drive off). But, I also believe it takes higher gain much better. So, in my opinion it'll make the channel more clean if you want it, yet even more dirty if you want it so.

    Re: Extension Cab arrived

Hi Telemaster. Don't worry about the measurements. Mesa actually have them posted on their website! The 2x12 extension cab is almost the same size as the combo 2x12, only difference being the extension cab is about an inch and a half shorter in height. With a little bit of work I...

Drive knob higher than Gain knob?

I've been going back and forth trying different settings. This, after the Reeder Mod. I also think that the overall volume you're playing at will have a lot of effect on the sound. So, you might have the drive higher than the gain at low volumes, but decide to change that at higher volumes...

The cleans on a Roadster VS the cleans on a Lonestar

Well, I modded my LS with the Reeder mod and I'm liking the distortion channel now. No question about the clean channel as you all will agree. I'm going to keep using the LS with the mod for the next few months and see how it works out. But... I will most definitely keep an eye on the...

How are the Mesa cabinet panels joined?

Hello. I was watching the video on the Mesa homepage. I saw that the wood cabinets that are meant to be "wood finish" are cut to have interlocking panels. (The square "teeth" at the end of each panel that interlocks with the adjacent panel.) Now, I know this is true for the wood finish...

The cleans on a Roadster VS the cleans on a Lonestar

So... essentially a Roadster is a like a Dual Recto, but with a nicer clean channel? I need to take a Mesa Weekend. Yeah, and go out to every single shop I can find that sells Mesas and try out every single model I can find. That way I'll know what each one is all about. I don't know much...

The cleans on a Roadster VS the cleans on a Lonestar

Oh, oh! Don't tell me that! You're telling me what I want to hear! And that's never good for my wallet! I like the LS cleans, I don't think I can give it up! But if there is an amplifier that can provide those cleans, but chug away at punk and "lower hi-gain stuff" I might just be in for a...
