    Mk IIb minor mods

My Mk IIb did not come with a Gain switching jack for some reason, so I added one earlier this week. It is very nice, being able to switch the gain on & off with a foot switch. Last night I made one more change. Since my amp doesn’t have a reverb, it has an extra hole in the rear of the...

    Channel switching for Mark I...how?

If I understand the schematic correctly, the gain switch doesn't completely bypass the tone controls, it shunts around a resistor (I can't remember which one) giving more gain and mids to at one point in the tone stack. The tones controls should still have an effect.

Best "small" amp clone/brother, for Mark I type to

the Special uses El84s only. The regular Lonestar uses 6L6s or EL34s, but you can't switch it down to 5 watts - you pick from 50 or 100 watts only. But you get the "Tweed" switch like on the Mk I reissue, which makes it clip sooner. I don't know if you can use 6V6s. Have you tried a pair of...

Best "small" amp clone/brother, for Mark I type to

I tried a Lone Star Special (LSS) a few weeks ago. I think I got pretty close to the tone of my Mk II with it. It has 4 power amp settings: 5, 15, 30 & 38 watts. I left it in the 5 watt mode when I was test driving. Search for LSS in the Boogie Board.

    Pull Bright

I forgot to mention that I usually roll the highs off with the guitar tone control, too. I was playing last night, & tweaking the knobs on my Mk II without looking. By the time I finished the mids were at 10 and the bass was at 4. A lot of it depends on the room and my ears at the time...

    John Mclaughlin amp. Mark I

Looks like a Mk II-c to me. I count 7 knobs, & 6 pull switches.. Hard to tell.

    Channel switching for Mark I...how?

Yup. Check it out: http://mesa.stores.yahoo.net/bfootswitch.html There's gonna be a huge volume change when you do this, though.

Which other Boogie Mark sounds closest to the Mark 1?

I think it does, but I haven't A/Bd them in the same room.

    Pull Bright

I have no graphic EQ too (apparently, Carlos uses his Mk 1 with the graphic EQ flat!) OK: Vol 1 = 7-8, brite pulled out Treble = 6-7, pushed in Bass = 2-3 Mid = 3-5 Master = 1-2, gain pulled out Lead drive = 7-8, pulled out Lead master = 3-4 brite pushed in I have to tweek it depending on the...

    Pull Bright

I've got a IIb, I usually leave the brite on the lead master in, & the brite on the volume pulled. I'm shooting fo a Santana-y lead sound. The other guitarists I play with tend toward the bright-jangly tone, so I like to go for a more grunty tone. D

I called Mesa & talked to MB right after I got my beat-up MKIIB. I asked him about the rust on the tranny. He said that as long as it was working, not to worry about it, & trying to fix it might cause problems. I've had it for 3 years & had no issues. Dirt

    Mark IIb farty lead channel

I'm very interested in the details of this mod too. What does the mod involve? How much does it cost? It is something my local boogie service center can do? I would have to ship my amp halfway across the country, & I'm pretty tight on cash. My MkII is very basic, can an EQ and reverb be added...

    Mark IV: Heaven and Hell

I would be willing to bet that once you play with R2 at gigging levels, you'll be happier with the sound. Possibly. :)

    Mark IIb tube questions

    a) Can't help here, but I would assume you are correct. b) Yes, if you run in the 60 watt mode all the time, swapping the tubes will buy you time. Question: If you are in 60 watt mode, do you even need the other 2 tubes in the amp? Dirt

    Oooph!

I got a little luggarge cart for mine, & it's only a 60 watter. I dread outdoor gigs..Seriously, a good reason to switch to a head & cab. Dirt

Re: Watcha got? Just one old Mark II B. Used to have a V-Twin, traded it in part to get the amp. 60 watts, no EQ, no verb, unmoddified. Came with the EV, but I'm trying an Eminance Stonehenge right now. I re-tolexed the cab, poorly. I'll have to do it again. I'm playing around with an EQ...

Do amps ever need a good re-furbishing?

When I got my Mark II, it had been "neglected", to be polite. Tolex was trashed, weird conglomeration of cheap tubes in it, dirty & a bit rusty in spots. Even the metal corners were dented & rusty. I did this: 1. Took it apart. 2. Blew out the dirt. 3. Cleaned to pots (& tried to clean the...

Hi. I figured I'd sign up, as I've been reading the posts here for some time. Not much else to say, except I love my Boogie. Dirt
