Suhr RL: too scooped and boomy, which RL next?

I made the IRs of my speakers with the same mics I record them with. I run them flat in the Wall of Sound plugin, no EQ, no power amp sim. I've demoed every single IR available to buy from Two Notes and none of them were usable to me. I've had a few floor modelers/multi-FX, a couple analog cab...

Suhr RL: too scooped and boomy, which RL next?

I know the sound of the amp in the room sounds nothing like it does thru mics. I monitor the mics thru headphones while I dial in everything and I'm trying to get a direct thru IR sound to match the mic'd speaker sound. The IRs are of my speakers recorded with the same mics.

Suhr RL: too scooped and boomy, which RL next?

I'm trying to devise a way to silently record my Mark V:90, but I haven't liked any of the many IRs, cab sims, and modelers I've tried. So I recently created IRs of my speakers and mics. Loaded in the TwoNotes Wall of Sound plugin in the DAW, running the FX send to the interface, it actually...

Help me chose an used Mark V

Blemishes are to be expected on 12+ year old gear. The price should be appropriate for not being mint. I'd totally buy cosmetically blemished used items to get a lower price. I recently bought a used Mark V. Ordered online from an established guitar store selling with many good reviews on...

Free I think I got scammed

Someone told me they got scammed as a seller when a buyer paid wirh F & F and then took the money back after the item was shipped. I don't know what the conditions are, but supposedly you can reverse a payment you made thru F & F. And file a dispute with PayPal, they've always been good about...

    V:90 Resonance in 90W mode

Is the speaker new? I've had that happen with brand new speakers... I crank the bass on the amp and the active EQ I have in the guitar and play it like that for about 30 minutes to break the speaker in and it loosens up and the resonance stops happening after I return the EQ to normal settings.

    Mark VII and Fryette PS2?

Since the Mark VII doesn't have a master volume, an attenuator could be useful. You can also put anything with a volume control in the FX loop to use as a master volume, but this won't give you any power tube saturation. Typically, attenuators are used in order to get power tube saturation at...

    Would you sell your mesaboogie?

The Mark V is the last amp I'll ever have to buy, I'll never sell it. It's my 10th amp but only the first that I really enjoy and don't have to fight with to get a half-decent sound. It's everything I need in an amp. But if you're not using something, it's probably best to sell it to someone...

Running two TC50 with one pedal board?

FX send of amp 1 -> pedal chain with at least one stereo pedal at the end, then stereo output -> FX returns of amp1 & amp 2. To share a mono front-of-amp chain with two amps, either a Y-splitter adapter or AB/ABY switch. You might encounter ground loops with routing like this. It's good to...

    My first Mesa Amp

You'll probably be able to hear it if any damage has occurred. Run an overdrive in front to add gain without having to crank it on the amp.

    JP2C, 4CM FM3

Did you try a line isolator? Like a Samson MLI1 line isolator w/ground lift. It's helpful to have at least a couple of these around when troubleshooting complex signal routing. Try it at various points in the chain to find the spot where lifting the ground might help. I run 3 amps in stereo...

Mark V 90W combo speaker change

This one has a handwritten date in silver paint pen by the power tubes of January 2012. Don't know what it's about... did they date them when manufactured, or was it denoting being serviced, or when tubes were installed? Dunno, but it's definitely at least 12 years old. It has the newer...

Mark V 90W combo speaker change

My 2x12 with V30's is a closed-back, but the back panel is removable. I keep it off because I find it to be more boxy with it on. I also have a plywood 1x10 I assembled myself (from Tube Depot) that also sounds a lot more boxy with the back panel on. So I keep them all open. I don't play at...

Mark V 90W combo speaker change

I love how bright and detailed my Mark V 90W is. I've never had a clean channel sound so nice. And the high gain on channel 3 is so clear and detailed in the mids yet not harsh and fizzy in the high end. I have to crank the treble and presence on my other amps to get rid of their muddiness, but...

How old were you when you started playing guitar?

I never took lessons. Started late at 17 (after being on LSD in a house full of instruments made me realize I was supposed to be a musician). I played clarinet in 3rd & 4th grades and had 1st chair a few times. Piano lessons for less than a year around age 12. But none of it kept my interest. I...

    Mesa MarkV / Saturation 'mod'

The SPAX7 is supposed to have the leaat amount of noise. I haven't had any gold pin tubes, but I've put the SPAX7's, Tung Sol, EHX, Groove Tubes, Ruby, and JJ 12AX7's in several different amps, including a Mark V 90W. There's no significant difference in sound. I recorded the same riff with the...

JHS Little Black Box in a Triple Rectifier

The little black box will work just like a master volume when placed in a series FX loop. You can crank the amp volume then turn it down with the black box and it'll be the same thing as just turning the amp's master volume down. It's still reducing the signal level that's hitting the power amp...
