I've got a really nice high gain sound dialed in for my schecter with Blackouts right now (for using a passive pickup guitar, settings need to be altered) but right now:
Channel 3
Mark IV mode
Pentode
45 watts
Master: Cranked
Gain: 1 o'clock
Channel volume: noon
Presence: noon...
I too have been using the bright switch on from the start  I think it has something to do with coming off from my VERY bright ENGL and just being kinda used to that sound.
Really? Interesting, I will have to try this out. I would have thought bright on would work better on Extreme mode...
Oh really? I did not know that. I saw BTBAM earlier this year, but the amps were off behind the band banners. I just assumed it was his racktifier setup. No wonder Waggoner sounded so good!
In addition to DT and LoG, Cannibal Corpse and Between the Buried and Me are using Mark V's on the road now I guess

Cool to see more bands using this awesome amp! And people say the Mark V doesn't have...
The Mark V will share some similar tonal characteristics with previous mark amps, and possibly a little bit like the DC's, so on and so forth. But will it sound like a recto? Nope.
I'd check your tubes, just get like a single new preamp tube, and start swapping it into each position to figure out the culprit.
I don't even use my ISP decimator with my Mark V anymore
