New Strats with Tim Shaw Humbuckers

Has anyone looked at these yet? I've never liked strats with humbuckers, however I can change my mind with these. I own a 1981 les paul custom with Tim Shaws and have always loved the sound. I saw some videos, but will need to actually play one. Pretty excited about these. They have 2...

Wah in the loop any thoughts?

In front for me. Didn't like the way it sounds in the loop.

EL34 tube recommendation for RA100, any suggestions?

bandit - it seems to me, by your postings, that your amps eat up a lot of tubes. Have you ever looked into that? Maybe its just my perception.

Led Zep IV reissue------Yes, or No?

I will say, that Page's attention to detail in the super deluxe boxed sets is super. The re-masters do have slightly better separation on the instruments than the 2008 re-masters (with the exception of Houses, which is much better here - I was disappointed with it in the '08 boxed set) , but...

Led Zep IV reissue------Yes, or No?

No..... I have purchased all of the super deluxe boxed sets that have been available. I paid around $100 for each. My main motivation was for the 180g virgin vinyl that was pressed from the Pallas plant in Germany. My old Zep vinyl from the 70's and early 80's were not of the same quality...

Permanently removing reverb tank in a Mark IV A

Just as a FYI, this is what I've been using in my Mark IV the past few years as far as pre-amp tubes; V1 - Tung-Sol (RI) V2 - JJ V3 - JJ V4 - Stock Mesa V5 - Mullard (RI) All are 12AX7 except for the V4 which is a 12AT7

EL34 tube recommendation for RA100, any suggestions?

Have you ever purchased for tube depot. I swear by them. They've always been good to me. Just my 2¢

EL34 tube recommendation for RA100, any suggestions?

bandit - just curious, what was the place on-line that cancelled your order. Just wondering. Thanks

Straight question:What's the optimal rating for power tubes?

Dodger - just came across your post. Best explanation yet I've read on this subject. I have a pair of el34s in my Mark IV (460 plate voltage I believe) at 29ma. Also have a pair at 42ma. The ones at 42ma are about 79%, they run hot but sound great. Do you know what 6L6s are rated at, is it...

    Mark IV combo effects loop.

If you plug into the normal loop, the effect is always on. You may want switchable. As far as the sound, the first thing I would check is the pre-amp tubes. I believe the V2 pre-amp slot is the FX return. FWIW, Those type of pedels don't do well in the lead channel or in the FX loop in a...

EL34 tube recommendation for RA100, any suggestions?

I have been using SED el34s for many years now. Still have pair in my Mark IV plus another in the closet. However, last year when I knew that they were done with production I too started looking. My search ended with the TungSol el34b. I found their characteristics very close to the SED...

    Winged C EL34's?

SED =C= are hard to come by these days since SED stopped production recently. I have these in my Mark IV and love them.

    Iconic bad tone

Regarding bad tone, how about anything that Neil Young did. That tone sounds like a $30 guitar played through a realistic portable radio. Like the ones from the '70s.

Please suggest preamp tube for Mark IV

    This is what I've been using (Mark IV(a)) and have been happy with: V1 - Tung-Sol (RI) V2 - JJ V3 - JJ V4 - Stock Mesa V5 - Mullard (RI)

    Considering some alternate 12ax7 tubes...

I don't own a V, I have a IV. However I've probably played at least 12 hours on a couple of different V's, combo and 4X12. Neither seemed BRIGHT. Yes not as compressed as the IV, or dark, but I wouldn't call it bright to the point where it was an issue. I would have it get a run through by a...

    Considering some alternate 12ax7 tubes...

What does this mean? Are you getting rid of the V and keeping the IV? Or just done with tube rolling in the V?

Non Metal Mark IV users?? Are there any?

    +1 for Walter Trout!

    Jimi Hendrix wah tone

+1 A cheaper alternative is the Cry Baby Classic with the Fasel inductor. That will give you that throathy sound plus a bit more gain.
