No..... I have purchased all of the super deluxe boxed sets that have been available. I paid around $100 for each. My main motivation was for the 180g virgin vinyl that was pressed from the Pallas plant in Germany. My old Zep vinyl from the 70's and early 80's were not of the same quality...

Just as a FYI, this is what I've been using in my Mark IV the past few years as far as pre-amp tubes; V1 - Tung-Sol (RI) V2 - JJ V3 - JJ V4 - Stock Mesa V5 - Mullard (RI) All are 12AX7 except for the V4 which is a 12AT7

SED =C= are hard to come by these days since SED stopped production recently. I have these in my Mark IV and love them.

Regarding bad tone, how about anything that Neil Young did. That tone sounds like a $30 guitar played through a realistic portable radio. Like the ones from the '70s.

+1 A cheaper alternative is the Cry Baby Classic with the Fasel inductor. That will give you that throathy sound plus a bit more gain.
