Personally i don't like wood finishes on amps because i think if i turned up at one of our gigs with one i'd be murdered and it'd be set on fire. IMO any amp disguising itself as a dining table is not worth 4k :lol:

I think it probably is the guitar. I used it through my Orange Tiny Terror when i had that as well and it always sounded very bassy, even through that! I'm using 10s at the moment, tried using 9s to twang it up a bit but it just sounded thin and i didn't like the feel for heavy rhythm playing...

It's definitely both channels. I think it's about time this amp was re-tubed anyway - i bought it second hand and the guy had no idea when the tubes were last changed. I've been worried all day that it was a bad power/output transformer. Thanks Monsta-Tone, you've given me hope!

Well the SG is a one piece mahogany with Gibson blade single coils. They're quite high output though, particularly the neck pickup which i tend to use most because i love it for cleans.

Actually i just tried it again - turning the amp up to full yields a tiny sound if you get right up close to the speaker. I've turned it off and unplugged it now and won't touch it till i know what's wrong. Is it the input or maybe the output transformer?
