I don't have a Mark III (I play through a Mark IV), but I too find that the biggest difference is when I switch to Class A mode. (I run EL34s in the outer sockets).

Mine is a "B". According to Mesa, it was made in June of 2003. All pre-amp tubes on mine are 12ax7s. Serial number 114xx.
