Simul-class question: where should my "best pair" of tubes go?

I guess I had kind of intuitively assumed this (again, no real evidence to back it up)...

Help! Is my Mark IIb Simul-class or not?

Thanks! I had to get my wife's makeup mirror, have her shine a flashlight, and take a picture with my cell phone, but sure enough, I could read "Simul Class" backwards in the mirror! Very interesting they decided not to charge him for Simul-Class or the export transformer, according to the receipt.

    Mark IIC+Question.

I'm not an expert, but the amp in your link appears to be an upgraded IIC, based on the SN, I think

    Mark IIC+Question.

Help! Is my Mark IIb Simul-class or not?

Thanks. I'm loving this amp, and got an incredible deal. It does seem odd, though- the '84 pricing guide that was posted lists the "simul-class" option as a $25 option, on top of the $175 for "Hundred Watt Option with 100/60 Watt Switch and Fan." That $175 option is on the receipt, but...

Help! Is my Mark IIb Simul-class or not?

It has a "Simul-class/Class A" switch on the back The original owner gave me the original paperwork, but the order states "Hundred Watt Option with 100/60 Watt Switch and Fan" However, the order doesn't mention anything about the export PT that it has, so I don't know what to think. When I...

Simul-class question: where should my "best pair" of tubes go?

Just curious, if you only have one pair of your best tubes, would you put them in the Class A or A/B sockets? My favorite are my STR 415's, but at the moment, I just have 1 pair. I have four STR 430's, and two STR 440's Just curious how people perceive the sounds of particular tubes in Class...

What Mk III or mod would you pair with a IIc+?

The bolded would be my vote, based on how I know the Studio Preamp to sound (I believe it's the "IIC" side of the Quad). I have that and a stock Red Stripe Mark III. If I was gigging in a band, I would love to have these two sounds at my disposal- StudPre for lead, III for rhythm. I would also...

Want more liquidy-ness. Should I mod my red stripe III DRG or get a studio preamp?

I'm sure I'll eventually try a "IIb+," but at this point, it just seems like so much effort to send it in for the mod, when at that point (now owning a Mark III, StudPre, IIb) I'll have almost spent the $ for a IIc+ itself, and that's been the tone I'm chasing all along. Comforting to know if I...

Want more liquidy-ness. Should I mod my red stripe III DRG or get a studio preamp?

So, I've been loving my StudPre tone, but realized (as @Thaymz said) that both my III red stripe AND my IIb have a "bigger" sound than the Studio, even though the StudPre is the most liquid. Both the IIb and the III just sound like there is a "wider" sound coming out of the speaker. @GJgo- as...

Walk me through the Studio Preamp "C+" mod...

That's interesting- I actually used to do the same with a Marshall 30th anniversary into a silver jubilee (before I converted to Boogie, of course...) But you're adding another tone stack to the sound, right? My purist sensibilities are pushing back against this application... but of course I'm...

Walk me through the Studio Preamp "C+" mod...

...in layman's terms ;-) ...or, it guitar-player-ism's Being honest, the Studio Preamp through the power section of my Mark IIb S (60W) is the most incredible lead tone I've ever experience in-person in my life. I'm thrilled. However, recordings I've heard of the IIC+ have always been my...

Mark IIb mod's, return on investment (i.e. second-hand going rate?)

Good to know. I may keep the IIb stock and just sell off the III Red Strip DRG, StudPre, and get a IIC+. I can try A/B'ing the IIb/IIc+ for clean/lead in performance situations (for when performances start actually happening again...) I just learned that I'm perfectly happy dialing in a...

Mark IIb mod's, return on investment (i.e. second-hand going rate?)

Thanks, @GJgo - your videos were the reason I decided to pull the trigger on a IIb. Even though we're looking for different sounds out of these amps, your demos really do paint a very comprehensive picture of what the amp can do. I must say, my new stock IIb is the most touch-sensitive amp I...

Want more liquidy-ness. Should I mod my red stripe III DRG or get a studio preamp?

I've confirmed that the "Pull Deep" is actually just letting the entire signal through. When it's pushed, it's not letting some frequencies through. So when I'm pulling the "Pull Deep," I'm really just hearing the StudPre as it was intended, not actually "double" anything Same goes with "Gain...

Mark IIb mod's, return on investment (i.e. second-hand going rate?)

That all sounds logical. Pentode/triode switch would be to both reduce the output of the amp (I'm getting a 60-watt, so no other option to reduce output). Also, I'd have a slightly different tone to play around with. I've heard of many people adding this to their Mark III's, especially the green...

Mark IIb mod's, return on investment (i.e. second-hand going rate?)

As I said, it's not for me. "++" seems to sell! I didn't realize the loop mod added that much gain, though. Very excited to hear what it sounds like, and compare to my Red Stripe and Studio Preamp (running through the Red Stripe DRG power section). Right now, the Studio Preamp setup is getting...

Mark IIb mod's, return on investment (i.e. second-hand going rate?)

Just curious about the second-hand market for mod'd iib's. Mod I'm wanting to do is the fx loop Also, are these possible? Pentode/Triod switch "++" Mod If "++" is possible, can it be made switchable? (via push/pull) It's only the fx loop mod that I really want, just considering the others...

Will any EL34/6L6's work in my Mark III?

FTR- I retract everything I said about Mesa STR 416's (which are Sylvania EL34's, I believe?) They are the best sounding tubes I've used in the Mark III DRG, running the Studio Preamp through the fx return. With the Mesa STR 415's in the A/B sockets, it's the best tone I'm getting out of this...

Want more liquidy-ness. Should I mod my red stripe III DRG or get a studio preamp?

Studio preamp has arrived. Running it through the power section of my DRG Red Stripe. The most awesome thing is that "Pull deep" on the Mark II's & III's is after the fx loop (as well as presence), so I have a Studio Preamp with a "Pull deep"! Did I mention this is awesome? More soon.
