More Mark 2c+ vs Mark III vs 50 Caliber+ questions/commentary

Honestly, if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably just get a Mark VII and be done with it. Short of that, I think the Mark IV gives the older Mark vibe and controls. The JP2C isn't my favorite and I get not liking it as much, to me the 240hz range sounds boxy, I have to bottom out that...

More Mark 2c+ vs Mark III vs 50 Caliber+ questions/commentary

You know, just playing my Mark III green right now, man, it really does sound good. The only downside is that I do have to keep the presence at zero. I might mod this thing to give the classic triode mode of the Mark IIC+ as I can tell that pentode is more aggressive than triode per my Mark IV...

I vote for a Mark III modded to III+

    Triode/Pentode switch on mark III

big question for me is HOW to do it? Or more so, where to do it? What's the popular spot to put the switch so that it "kinda" looks factory? Ideally, I think the most badass thing to do on a Greeny would be the triode/pentode switch AND somehow, find a way to add a 500pF/1000pF cap for C30 on...

Do Tubes Make that much of a Difference

Never noticed much of a difference, ever. I'll keep my money and pickup other amps I like rather than mess around with rolling tubes for some non-existant "holy grail" tube set. "If they work, they stay in the amp", I think Brandon Breeeze said that, and I am 100% on board with that sentiment.

For Sale Mesa Boogie Mark III Simul Class SN 25519 for Sale $4000 (OBO)

"Overall gain reduced from the blue stripe" wow is that not my experience, if anything my greens are more gainy than the blue. Either way the greens have an absolutely insane amount of gain regardless 😀 Good luck with your sale, it looks like a nice specimen 🤘

Sold / Withdrawn Mark III Red Stripe with 4x12 Cabinet $2500

Dang, if I were close I'd already be in my car headed there. If you ever decide to ship I'd be all over this...hmm, I wonder if I know someone in Indiana that could pick it up for me 🤔 great deal 👌

Anyone have an older JP2C to compare to newer built with the Shumacker transformers?

Yeah, this is my first time ever needing to repair an amp, it's only 3 months old, they responded to me earlier today, asked for date of purchase. Hoping I hear back from them tomorrow. It's a shame, I used to have a buinch of preamp tubes laying around. Not anymore, sadly. Also, they are what...

Anyone have an older JP2C to compare to newer built with the Shumacker transformers?

I was playing my JP2C just now, had the 6.6k slider down to like 1-2, started to hear an intermittent fluctuation of a really high presence tone, the buzz basically, it was as though someone had a momentary switch connected to the presence knob that would toggle it off and on, at random. So...

Anyone have an older JP2C to compare to newer built with the Shumacker transformers?

I wondered about this too, but all my amps go through one cab, so I'm really only hearing the differences, and the Mark VII and Mark III don't have the same buzzy quality to them as the JP2C 🤷‍♂️ Also, the 240hz slider on the JP does something totally different than the other 2, must be a...

Anyone have an older JP2C to compare to newer built with the Shumacker transformers?

I'm definitely one of those guys too, as long as they aren't malfunctioning, they are negligible. And these days, too much money to throw out to get a meaningful change. My JP2C definitely has a buzzy quality to it, compared to my III and Mark VII, I can kill it with the 6.6khz slider but then...

Anyone have an older JP2C to compare to newer built with the Shumacker transformers?

I too am interested in this as I've found my new JP2C to be quite buzzy compared to my Mark VII, wondering if the older model had less "fizz"; really wish my JP2C sounded like my Mark VII (in Mark IIC+ and IV modes), that thing is just the perfect balance of nice top-end and punchy lows

    No praise for the Badlander?

Well, all of these comments about the circuit sure do make me feel good about my assessment of the Badlander, to me and apparently a few others I know, it sounds like a Mark series without the EQ turned on and with less gain. Personally, I find the Mark VII mode set to about 1 o''clock gain, and...

Should Mesa Boogie reissue the Mark IIC+ ?

I'd love to see them do aomwrh Careful, you'll cause Mark III prices to skyrocket!! 😄 Seriously though I like the III better as well, sounds super crushing, slightly more aggressive than the regular IIC+ modes I've played, or the JP2C

Should Mesa Boogie reissue the Mark IIC+ ?

I feel like the JP2C is the reissue we're going to get. I mean, maybe not, I could be wrong, Gibson being who they are, cashing in on their legacy at every chance they get, I could see them doing an official reissue, w/o JPs name attrached, but I feel like that would kill sales of the JP2C...

Should Mesa Boogie reissue the Mark IIC+ ?

The IIB mode can get really big, as far as bass, without really getting muddy, it's a very useful mode. Bandit, don't you have a VII though?

    NAD JP2C, well ok, almost

Could be, but I've owned 2 Badlanders, and now, have played 3 total. They all sound the same to me, very, very little bass, and gain that's just not enough for smooth leads, it has that dry, dead feeling where the lack of gain leads to a lack of sustain. It's close though, as I always say...

    NAD JP2C, well ok, almost

Totally get where you are coming from, but I run every amp through one cab, so I'm literally only commenting on the differences between the amps. Maybe a different cab would give it more bass, but if that were the case my other amps would be completely off the scales with uncontrollable amounts...
