Have they said why they did not include a master volume on the Mark VII? It's not like this series has ever relied on power tube distortion. Probably a good reason, I just can't think of one.

Yeah, that was the only pic I could find with the 2 Mesas for some reason. Eventually I think he just had 2 Rectos and separate 4x12s for each, but I could be wrong.

Yes, the clean channel cranked sounds fantastic. Especially the Crunch channel. The PS-2 seems like a great piece of gear for amp enthusiasts in general. I forgot that they were fairly expensive. Now they are harder to find too. Is there a huge difference between the PS-2A and the PS-100?

Agreed, I almost never crank the gain unless it is at home on a master volume setting. And even then, only usually on the clean channel. I also don't really use the 10-watt setting as the master volume difference is like an eighth of a turn and it doesn't sound as good. They should have made...

I believe that is also what is says in the Mark V manual. So basically you will just go through tubes faster, maybe? Preamp tubes can last a long time but with extreme gain might need replacing more often.

I don't think max gain can damage an amp. Maybe you can blow a speaker, but there is no reason to add enough gain to an amp so that you can only run it at 1 o'clock. It might sound muddy and super saturated but I don't think it should break anything.

The Mark 5 can sound like a Blackface Fender on the clean or fat setting. Maybe on low gain with the crunch channel but you can get some grit out of the fat channel too.

See if some Fillmore owners chime in here - I have heard good things about them.

Why did you return the one that was working well? I don't know the Fillmore well, not sure how many versions there are, etc. I'd flip this one if you can and buy the one that had no issues before?
