Best curent available EL34 for Mesa Mark V

KT77 run an EL34 bias as they fall into the EL34 variant category. Direct drop in, just a bit more heater current than a standard EL34 or 6CA7.

Best curent available EL34 for Mesa Mark V

I believe the Bias switch was there since they came out with it in 2009. @edge59AlnicoIV I assume you have a one of a kind Mark V. Having a signature on it to boot. Cool. Ran a quad of Gold Lion KT77 for a while, heavy abuse at full power. Was not aware of the variac power note. Did not...

Mark V, best tones I've found for high gain "trick".

It was give or take when comparing the two. Mark IVb to the Mark V. I much preferred the full separation between the three channels. As for the V taking a nose dive, CH3 is nothing but feedback that ramps up, no sound from the guitar, just noise, Preamp tube changes did not fix it either...

Mark V, best tones I've found for high gain "trick".

I have. Did not fix the issues I have with my Mark V90. Amp finally gave out, I am not going to bother to repair it. Never bonded with it.

    New amps?

The Mark V90 will saturate the power tubes, that is what it is designed to do. The extended class A is they key. The other pair are just enhancers. You do not need to push it hard to get the power tubes to clip or to have that characteristic sound. MWDR and Roadster, you need that stage...

Mark V, best tones I've found for high gain "trick".

Try using a grid slammer or flux drive up front. That also makes a world of difference on the V especially in the IIC+ or IV modes. Even better for the JP2C as I feel it needs a little more gain at times. Have not tried either with the Badlander or the Mark VII. Will have to remember to give...

    Dual rect Multi-watt strange hum

Just a thought or two.... Are you in the USA? All of my tube amps will have some hum from the PT. That is normal. Some with the small fans will mask that sound due to fan noise. I do have two amps I can turn off the fan, RA100 and the Mark V90. The PT hum is more apparent with the fan...

Sweetwater is showing "new" mesa tubes

Sure it is ok to get non-Mesa branded tubes. I have used many other brands in my amps, most of the time, the warranty had expired. The SED =C= 6L6GC and the EL34 tubes I have used did not have any Mesa logo. I did however grab up some of the SED =C= EL34 Mesa STR442 when they were available...

    Just bought a used Mark V 90w. I own a Mark V 35.

I will ask, is your Mark V:35 a combo amp? Or is it a head and you are using it with a 412 cab? I do not have any experience with the EL84 dyna-Watt power Mesa products like the Mark V:25 or Mark V:35 so I cannot comment on that. I am surprised the amp only pushes out 35W considering the...

The Mark V90, Longest running Mark Series to date

Not sure. Most inventory is depleted. Ruby sold them as the 7025, 12AX7, ECC83. However, it is hard to say if it will be the Beijing Square foil getter tube. I have not been able to find any except for old listings on Reverb. Most of what I have are leftovers from the 1990s (used tubes I...

    Badlander and the EVM 12L

I have an EV loaded cab but do not remember if I tried the BAD100 through it as the only cab. I did try to pair it with one of the boogie 410 cabs though. Made the EV sound very bright after raising it off of the floor but could have been the combined character with that and the 410 cab. I will...

Mark Five head and 4X12 cab switchable 16 ohm or 4 ohm

The golden rule no matter what the amps make is. Never use a cabinet of lesser impedance than the rated output as this will overload the OT and may potentially damage it. The only exception would be for Bass amps that can handle a 2 ohm load. Always read the manual so you do not wind up...

Mark Five head and 4X12 cab switchable 16 ohm or 4 ohm

I would probably just run the cab switched to 4 ohm and use the 4 ohm tap on the amp. At least that is a proper impedance match. Review the manual if you are uncertain. It can be found online from Mesa as well. At least it will be up to date if any changes were made. Customer service...

    New amps?

Did not mean to hijack this post. @RWN I hope you find something that works for you. Sometimes a vendor has something close but not exactly what one wants. I too would prefer a midi interface on a Rectifier amp. Would be nice to see a rebirth of the Road King but in a smaller package like...

    New amps?

There is no right or wrong answer here. I can sympathize with the OP that not all amps will fit my needs either. However, I can make do with what is available. I barely change channels if the amp has good dynamics. Meaning if the channel I am using with moderate distortion cleans up well...

    New amps?

It is all good. It does matter what cab/speaker you match with the gear. +1 on Theresa's post. Well stated. The only question I have about modeling amps, do you get the same feel and connection you get with a tube amp? Sure, some tube amps you may not connect with or feel that mojo and...

    New amps?

I have tried a few. Felt it sounded artificial though. I thought about getting a LE-Bass pedal that has a 12AX7 tube in it to see if that would work in the FX loop or on the front end. The TT800 does have a slight drive to it, more so after changing the Tung Sol 12AT7 to an RFT 12AT7 and two...

    New amps?

I would agree. The 412 is a bit overkill but it can be managed easily. It just take up too much floor space. the Vertical 212 is my preferred cabinet. Not as scooped in its composure like the standard 412. Depends on the amp I am using. the RA100 does not fit well on the Vertical 212...

    Mesa Subway D-800+ Troubleshooting

I would send Mesa customer service an email and see what they say. It may be out of warranty but they may have an idea what the issue is and direct you how it can be fixed if there is an internal issue. It could be as simple as a bad ground on the power cable. Have you tried replacing that...

    New amps?

The only time I will go to a modeling rig is when tubes are no longer available. The 412 cabs work great at home. Not sure what is wrong with that. V212 cabs are also good too. Nothing wrong with the Badlander 100, has three power modes and can be run at bedroom level at 100W without...
