Best pedals to improve the Mark series overdrive tone

Learn to use the tone controls and EQ properly. Set right, the Mark III overdrive is unbeatable by ANY pedal at ANY price. If you think you need a pedal, you really need to learn to run the amp correctly instead. Start by (A) dropping the bass control down low, two or less. And (B) start...

    Mark II B needs parts.

Why replace a "small board" when components can be replaced? Got a big hole burned through it? There are only a few boards in a Mark II. Preamp, power cap board, output tube board, EQ assembly, EQ circuit board. Far as I can remember, that's the list. So what's wrong with yours?

For Sale Mark V:90 Quilted Maple Hardwood Combo with Matching 1x12 extension cabinet

Location: Melbourne, FL. For sale: Mesa/Boogie Mark V:90 combo with matching Mesa 1x12 half back extension cabinet. Both cabinets are quilted maple, with wicker cane grilles. There is a SLIGHT color mismatch between the two cabinets. Grilles look like a perfect match. Edge piping IS...

    Mark II ID’ing

Does it look like an EQ might have been installed and removed afterwards? Look at the mount points for scratches, signs of screws having been installed and removed, etc. That would make sense given that it's a remarked chassis. So it's from an earlier period, pre-C+, and rebuilt with EQ...

The Mark V90, Longest running Mark Series to date

I had a Mark IVB for exactly one year. Got it at the 2012 Orlando International Guitar Show, traded it for a Mark V 90 and a Mesa horizontal 2x12 (and some cash) at the show in 2013. At the 2014 show I acquired my second Mark V 90 from the same guy. Yes, my Mark IVB sounded really good...

The Mark V90, Longest running Mark Series to date

Here's my new thang.....gotta do something about that grille mismatch. The cabinet finish mismatch, I can live with.

The Mark V90, Longest running Mark Series to date

To answer the earlier question posed to me, my "new" Mark V 90 has a C90 speaker, and so does the 1x12 extension cab that came with it. NOT my favorite speaker by any means. But not terrible. I have a variety of cabinets to choose from but mostly run my Mark V 90 head with a Mesa 2x12...

The Mark V90, Longest running Mark Series to date

As of this moment, all three Mark Vs are still on the Mesa website in the active list of amps. As a result of the Orlando guitar show in Orlando FL this last weekend, I now have not one but two Mark V 90s. This one is a combo in quilted maple, with a (near) matching 1x12 extension cabinet...

EQ sliders replacement - Mark IIB

There's also always the possibility of getting 3D printed repair parts made for the sliders.

    EVM 12L Black Shadow 400WATT ??

The EQ curve of PA speakers is relatively flat through their rated frequency range. The EVM-12L has always had a guitar speaker type frequency response, not a PA type frequency response. Yes it can be used in a PA application but you'll need to apply EQ to compensate. Its natural fit is...

What are Mesa Boogie going to do about the tube scarcity?

As of now there is no ban or embargo on the New Sensor tubes from the Reflektor factory. They're in production and shipping to Western countries. For now the supply of those brands is stable. All vendors that usually sell them have them in stock.

    EVM 12L Black Shadow 400WATT ??

Literally not true. The EVM-12L was even advertised by EV as being for guitar. Even in the OLDEST ads where they were advertising the SRO line. There are sound reinforcement/PA application speakers in the same series, but the 12L has always been specifically for guitar usage.

    EVM 12L Black Shadow 400WATT ??

I've never seen a 400 watt 12L before. Maybe it got a misprinted label and was printed for a 15B? The EVM-12L is the single greatest guitar speaker. But some people don't like it because it doesn't sound like a V30, a Greenback, or a Jensen.

MB 295 saved from the trash.

If it's blowing fuses, it's probably due to bad caps. They're 36 years old, after all. The bill to replace all those caps will be substantial but worth doing. I'd check the resistors on the tube sockets to be sure they're all in spec on value. If they are, a new set of caps should cure all...

What are Mesa Boogie going to do about the tube scarcity?

At this time Russian made tubes from the New Sensor Reflektor factory are NOT embargoed or otherwise unavailable, though depending on what country you live in you may have to pay more due to tariffs. The only tube I see missing from New Sensor's lineup is the Tung-Sol KT150 which no guitar amp...

Trying to replace tubes in my Mesa Boogie(first timer)

By the serial number your amp should be a 1986 purple stripe Mark III long head hundred. That's the model. Even though I don't see a purple stripe on the chassis near the power cord. 60/100/simulclass Reverb EQ Long or short head Color revision, black, blue, green, purple, red Those are...

The newest Mesa, er, Gibson Falcon

From what the online demos sound like so far, I'm going to be totally blunt about it. The 5 is 1500 dollars, the 20 is 1800 dollars, and I wouldn't give a THIRD of that for either one of them. Seriously unimpressed. If you don't keep the bass turned all the way off and turn it up for...

Back burnered project. I want to get back to it soon.

Back in the Boogie club, '82 SOB

I have an SOB, straight 60, with limiter. The limiter triac failed long ago so it's configured as a second master volume which is kept dimed at all times. I'd like to think of a more creative thing to do with that control. It had a harshness to it I did not like, which was cured by removing...

A Mesa Boogie combo vs head and one twelve with 23" cabinet

This is just me but I always prefer heads. I've bought combos when the deal was good, though. I'd like it if the Mark VII was available in a widebody version. I also prefer widebodies. Widebody heads are best.
