    Mr Scary Mod

Yes, I added an adjustable bias mod and the amp was custom modded by Trace at Voodoo Amps about 12 years ago. It’s very similar to his platinum mod, but tweaked for my style. The mod made the amp tighter and a bit more compressed at lower stage volumes, and brought out the higher mids a bit more...

    Mr Scary Mod

https://legendarytones.com/lynch-mod-pre-order-page/#more-1444 After a few emails back and forth with David at Legendary Tones I settled on the Mr Scary Mod for my Roadster. I’ve only had limited time with it installed, but it absolutely delivers on its claims. You can reduce the channel input...

    Potential New JP2C Owner

That’s probably a good choice. Seeing that some of the preamp tubes were already replaced it looks like someone was already chasing this problem and is now willing to get rid of it. Dom

You can’t determine the condition of the tubes by looking at them. They need to be checked with a tube tester. All I can tell from that picture is that the heaters work, and the tubes seem to be passing current at idle. Dom

V2b is used for all 3 channels as gain stages. V2a if the FX return buffer, that would also affect all channels. V3 & V4 are gain stages for just Channel 2&3 (and the reverb buffers). Start with those. Dom

The amp would have come with all Mesa branded tubes. I personally like the LPS as a PI tube, I use it in all my tube amps. Dom

Agreed. The current Mesa preamp tubes are JJ’s, just be sure to get them from a reliable vendor. Sometimes the shotgun approach is warranted, and gives piece of mind that you have all good tubes. If you do change them all out you don’t overlook the phase inverter (V5). Dom

Looking at the tube task chart in the manual it looks like all the tubes have some influence on channels 2&3. https://mesa-boogie.imgix.net/media/User%20Manuals/070494-JP2C-160317-download.pdf Dom

Good pedal to put in front of a Mesa to overdrive it?

That’s like asking what brand chocolate ice cream is best LOL. Can’t go wrong with a Tube Screamer IMO. I’m suprised the GT-500’s boost side is not working for you, drive down low and level up high. You don’t want to add any substantial drive, just boost the volume going into the amp. Dom

I Only Waited a Couple of Decades for This Day

Welcome to the forum. I love my Triple Crown, I have the TC-100. One thing I recommend is putting in a good quality 12AT7 in the cathode follower position (V5), it makes a very noticeable difference, and an EQ in the FX Loop. https://boogieforum.com/threads/tc100-fx-loop-driver-v5.87118/...

    Would you sell your mesaboogie?

I held onto a MKV90 for years hoping one day I’d get ‘that’ tone. After 6 or 7 years of trying I finally sold it. I was playing it on and off but never really clicked with it. I have a Stiletto Deuce II that I rarely play but I don’t think I’d ever sell it, it’s a great amp for that tweaked...

    Would you sell your mesaboogie?

If you’re not playing it I’d say let it go, preferably to someone who will play it regularly. Dom

    Mesa Maverick Hum

Does it hum without anything plugged into the input or fx loop? Does it hum no matter where you plug in for power (home, band practice, different circuit, etc)? Dom

    Dual rectifier 12v fan mod

That transformer buzz can be real annoying but should be inaudible while playing. Moving heat away from the amp is never a bad thing, but the amp is built for that environment. I used to use a cheap clip on fan for long rehearsals when I first got my Roadster, but the fan died after a few...

    Rectifier Tubes Keep Blowing

Welcome to the forum. There’s not much to the rectifier circuit, it’s really just some diodes and rectifier tubes. The tubes are always in the circuit. If the tubes are pulled and the amp functions correctly in diode mode I’m rather certain the only thing left in that circuit is the tubes...

Running two TC50 with one pedal board?

I’ve since removed the Miniq, there’s this odd chorus thing going on that’s really noticeable with the in-ears. It isn’t as noticeable through the cabs but it’s there. I like to set the EQ’s on the amps just a bit different from each other, a bit more mids on one, maybe more presence on the...

Running two TC50 with one pedal board?

You can link them via MIDI. It’s on page 20 of the manual. https://mesa-boogie.imgix.net/media/User%20Manuals/070544-TC50-180115.pdf Dom

Quality control issues on day one

Hand tight is not going to preload the chassis with enough tension. Use a screwdriver, but as mentioned don’t go cranking down on it. Just make it snug, maybe an 1/8 of a turn once the screw makes contact with the cabinet and stops turning freely. I just snug mine down with a screwdriver till...

If it’s not tight then yes, it should be fairly snug. Dom
