Mark series amps lead tone comparisons criticism: can we really?

I'll admit early on it was somewhat the same for me. But fortunately and TBH not sure why, it has become more consistent and repeatable. Ever since going to it as my live amp and setting it up in a number of different venues, with the same cab it's been sonically consistent. I had my concerns...

More Mark 2c+ vs Mark III vs 50 Caliber+ questions/commentary

It's not too much of a reach to say there certainly are a number of past and present Mesa choices that could probably work for your tone search. I find Mesas typically are designed to be extremely versatile. The mark II/III series with the shared tone stack is unique and while the III has more...

More Mark 2c+ vs Mark III vs 50 Caliber+ questions/commentary

Yes, if it is a IIC+, plugging into the FX return with a guitar or a source and varying the lead gain should have no effect on the output. Looks/sounds like that is a IIC.

Mesa V30 vs Mesa MC90: All Tone No Talk

For those who have an addiction to the speaker / cab deal here's a short 3 min fix. They list the amps but I'm not sure when they are being used in the vid. Enjoy. Mesa V30 - MC90 Comparison

LSS and pedals ( OD ) = hollow sound

Yea off the top that doesn't sound quite right. The LSS is an excellent pedal platform. However it's voicing and response with an OD pushing it is not the same as a V. It has quite a bit less overall gain. It's been my experience, especially with OD/Dist pedals, that the higher gain ones can...

Yea... my experience as well even with low to moderate gain amp settings.

More Mark 2c+ vs Mark III vs 50 Caliber+ questions/commentary

FWIW was poking around WRT the details on the III+ mod. At least this post seems to provide some solid info on the C30 options. Specifics on the C30 change The III+ ESP playthru was pretty good. Maybe a black stripe is a better choice. I certainly don't need another amp  ... but I'd be...

    Badlander 50W Combo Tones

This got me a bit curious... so with a poor mans configuration I slaved my LSS el84 power section to the Badlander 50W el34s preamp. There certainly is a difference, with the el84s you get a bit more upper mids, chimmy top end and a bit more give. The el34s have more of the lower mids and bottom...

More Mark 2c+ vs Mark III vs 50 Caliber+ questions/commentary

Oh totally get that... sure the IIC+ can chug but it does sooo much more. I find Ch 1 the unsung hero, it's pedal response is unique... sometimes feel you can get better single note work with a low drive OD pushing it. While I dig my V alot and also the IIC+ voicing, yea it's not really the same...

Black Shadow MS-12 vs Lead 80 speaker?

What did you like more about the Lead 80? I've always been interested in the MS-12.

So that should be an HR... 100/60W with Reverb. If I make out the serial number correctly that is a really early factory IIC+ or a converted IIC. Anything earlier then SN 12,500 is in that C->C+ transition period. recommend doing the loop test just to make sure it checks out. Gotta luv the...

More Mark 2c+ vs Mark III vs 50 Caliber+ questions/commentary

Coffee is good. :) If you like what you heard... just put an EQ in that loop and it will expand the tonal palette even further. There was a recent related discussion here, but you probably saw that 2C+ mods for a III Curious was it a SimulClass power section? That aside the DC is a solid amp...

    Badlander 50W Combo Tones

Man I missed the live stream Sat but caught the vid later, you are getting some serious tones out of the Badlander in the live setting. Straight in. At ~7:10 you showcase briefly the dynamics it has, there's something about the "feel" of it that sets it apart. Also the cat is out of the bag...

    Dual amp footswitch

I fortunately was using an FCB1010 as a midi controller in the studio with the GT-100 and then decided to start using it live and that made the Core a bit more usable. Plus Boss just released an update with an SD-1 now which was pretty cool.

    Dual amp footswitch

Had to chime in... I updated to the Core from the GT-100 a while ago, that was a game changer. The improved effects and the added features were too numerous to count.

    Bought a Mark VII!

Welcome back :) Yea for sure, no time to mess around with that during a show. :) Always relied on having a vol pedal in the loop even though the primary gigging amp currently is a V:90. Other Mesas I gigged with have Master Vols so vol pedal usage scenario was the same. But picked up a...

Lonestar vs Cal Tweed... anyone have both?

For those who do or maybe did... wondering what the comparisons are? Also curious about the CA Tweeds 6V6 vs the el84s in the LSS or the 6L6 LSC.

Can The Badlander Sound Like a MK5 35, Or...

The Mark V:35 is a different vibe then the Badlander. the tubes make some difference but really the way the preamps are voiced and what speakers they were running is more of a factor IMHO. The Badlander is much more of a hot rodded Marshall tone then the V which has that Mesa midrange thing...
