    Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Roadster

as @Eevil alluded to... For the Roadster check: V3 & V5, this link covers many of the details about the shortened tube life for Cathode Followers

    Still the King

41 years and four Mesa amps later... this HR is still at the top of the tonal list.

    Badlander el34s vs 6L6 smackdown

This topic started on another thread... thought it was worthwhile to throw up a specific one for it. Initially when I got the Badlander and was just checking everything out, threw a set of STR440s in it just to see what that was all about. Yep there was a difference but didn't really analyze...

Yea being used to the Mark V and it's GEQ, the Mesa GEQ is nice. Discontinued now... they are hard to come by.

NAD!! I guess Badlander goes in this section?

FWIW, threw a set of worn STR440s back in the BAD. I'm not an established tube sniffer but the difference was definitely noticeable in a good way. Pretty much the same take as well. Will do a rehearsal with them tomorrow.

Thanks, use this Mesa 5-Band GEQ. TBH I'm just really familiar with this GEQ model, there are others that will do just fine I bet. The 5W mode on Ch 2 is super good for smooth leads.

Welcome. The LSS is an amazing amp. Put a GEQ in the fx loop and trim the 80Hz just a bit and the tonal blanket peels right off. ;)

I FOUND IT AFTER ALL THESE YEARS OF SEARCHING!! My Mark V 90W Settings.

Excellent tips in that vid for the Marks and live application. Too many times I've dialed in excellent sounding settings in studio isolation only to see, well hear them "disappear" in a band mix. Yea it is a balance with the Marks especially that 750Hz slider, which is really sensitive in the V...

Question about Channel Volumes vs. Master Volume

Often wondered if I'd get on with one long term. Could be fun to have around, but space is limited. The Badlander doesn't seem to do the same kinda of woofy bottom end thing.

Question about Channel Volumes vs. Master Volume

oh man that would drive me nuts

    ‘Slaving’ a Mark V 25

No... it's a great idea. Since there is only one cab involved, the V:25's internal resistive load gives you that slaving option without any threat of damage. You should get to experience the feel of those 6L6s which should be denser and stiffer then the el84s. Yes the V's GEQ is placed before...

    Help with Mark V 90w

yea, I'd agree the relay switching on the V is involved. I doubt tubes at this point but there is limited info to work off of TBH

NAD!! I guess Badlander goes in this section?

For sure... each Mesa I have has a core vibe to it. The Marks for sure have their thing, which I dig. But the BAD sits in its own space with it's own vibe. What I noticed most is it doesn't get stiff or sterile. The V can get that way if you're not careful as can the Stiletto (which is the most...

NAD!! I guess Badlander goes in this section?

Ahhh very cool the maiden voyage is off to a good start. I agree, by itself the EVM had a very thick (good description) tone. I definitely liked the tone by itself, but in a band mix yea it needed some upper end balance. I got that from a 2x10 but I could see a V30 or H30 providing that. Nice...

NAD!! I guess Badlander goes in this section?

Hurry up :ROFLMAO: FWIW rehearsal last nite. Second time I've taken the BAD. Over the weekend had been cranking in patches at a remote location and grabbed this 2x10 cab with Celestion G10-40s, only cause it was light and compact. Well I was not expecting it to sound as good as it did...

    Decision time

FWIW I was curious about the el84s as well, so I preserved my bank account and instead ran the Badlander preamp into my LSS power amp. It was most excellent. Much of the character of what I hear from the 50W was present but there was a bit of smoothness in the less gainy settings that I...

NAD!! I guess Badlander goes in this section?

Hmmm IIRC they were the fairly used STR440 yel that came out of the V:90. Do need to revisit this since I'm more familiar with the BAD now. :)

    Help with Mark V 90w

hmmm, the relay RYR provides the global switching between tube and rect modes. It'd be one to look at. Is there a significant volume difference between the 10W & 45W modes?

NAD!! I guess Badlander goes in this section?

I've tried the 6L6s briefly early on and they certainly stiffen / fatten up the tone. They also pushed the Clean voicing more into that familiar Mark clean area. They are a viable option IMHO. The pentode 50W mode has that punch. FWIW I hauled the BAD out to rehearsal for the 1st time and where...
