New Mark III red stripe owner

Push it hard and damage some ears!! 8)

Thought I had a mark III, Actually have a POS

Heh, it's probably my fault for reading the wrong intent in your post. Whisky glasses. But as I discuss below, I don't believe your experience is power related at all... +100 When you push the power stage as hard as I do, the EL-34s are going to die early. Inconsistencies are...

    Mark III lead channel mod

I swapped a NOS RFT 12ax7 in V3 and accomplished just what you desire.

Thought I had a mark III, Actually have a POS

I deal with UPSes and power regulators for a living, so I'm having a hard time understanding how it explains how the class A/B amp sounds bad enough to make the class A sound good? The average power is the USA is not going to impact the capability of your amp unless you depend on a generator...

    Mark III Red Stripe question....

There's the real secret. I like ch1 set like this (with the master dimed) with an EP Booster and TS-9. THAT'S the undocumented killer Boogie. 8)

    EP Booster - Loop

I love the fu-hell out of it! 8) The perfect combination would be to have 2 of them...one on front and the other in the loop. The gain push with ch1 in conjunction with a great OD is spectacular. Use the neutral setting for the other in the loop for lead volume boost. It is the secret sauce, for me.

Sending my Mark lll in .... any suggestions on what to do ?

You might ask them for any documented history on the amp, like previous service records, etc. Otherwise, you should be good!

anyone using a bb xotic with your Mk 3 ?

+1 If you play your MkIII like many here...ch3 for metal/hard rock...then you won't like much/any boost. There's so much on hand ant further loading the input will only bring noise and fizz. But, if you are like me and no longer use ch2 and 3, then boost pedals work spectacularly well. The...

Thought I had a mark III, Actually have a POS

That's a tough and subjective topic. IMO, it really depends on the music you play and the target tonal emphasis. For the scooped metal tone, the preference seems to be for everything but the green stripe. For any other music type, it can be conjured out of any version, but easiest from the green...

mark III with extra knob on front??

The only real way to know if it is a factory mod is to call them. Photos?

SALE: 2x12 Vertical Mesa Cab (Maverick) - Sold

IMO, the best road cab ever made. Never fails and sounds as big as any 4x12. Good luck with the sale (probably not needed with that VERy fair price). 8)

    Mesa Boogie 4x12 or 2 2x12's ? sound difference?

I've stacked a pair of old Boogie 2x12s for years and they sound huge. 4 speakers are the magic ingredient, not so much in the same box. And it's easier to transport!

Whats the deal w/ mark 3s?

Because it's written on the Internet and we all know that makes it the absolute gospel truth.

Best Speaker for 2x12 closed-back cabinet

I loaded one of my old Boogie 2x12 half-backs with WGS ET-65 on top and Veteran 30 in the bottom. My main gig is a classic rock band and the C90s just were just too 'crisp'. The results are stunningly good for my purposes. HIghly, highly recommend WGS products.

Thought I had a mark III, Actually have a POS

That sounds like an easily justifiable investment. And remember: if it sounds too fizzy, a simple NOS preamp tube change brings it in line. No silly component mods are necessary. You're gonna like the way you sound...now. 8)

    School me on Filter Caps.

When these parts were designed into the Mark series amps, Illinois Capacitor was located, owned, operated and 100% made in Illinois. Since then, the operations have been sold with HQ no longer in the States. At the time, they were one of the finest parts available on the planet. I know, we were...

    School me on Filter Caps.

Just buy the caps directly from Mesa and call it a day. They ain't cheap but you only do this once every 20 years or so. Then you'll be certain they're extended temperature and within factory tolerances.

Whats the deal w/ mark 3s?

Meh, my response came out more harsh than I intended. Don't sweat it, bud. We tend to respond like someone just insulted our mother. :D

Whats the deal w/ mark 3s?

I know you end your post stating you like your MkIII, but there's just nothing else I can agree with, here. First, the IIc+ wasn't a legend in the 80's. Metallica's success and market saturation hadn't peaked, much less reached a point of influencing a guitar amp's available market. And the...

Where is this fabled 'town without Internet'? I want to vacation THERE! Thanks for the fix, Ned.
