    What cabs...

I have 2 basic EQ settings...one for me, alone in the amp cave and the other for the band. The two are pretty different to my ears and is why I try not to set the final EQ after I change up the pedalboard. Adjusting the tone on the ODs is where I get the mix cut and it varies with the venue...

    NAD: MKIIC DRGX

Man, if I'd only had the insigt to order a IIc+ when I ordered my III, my amp wall might look similar to yours. :D Great family portrait and great find.

    NCD 2x12

Nice! That one's probably from about '90-'92 with the small improvements from the original (rubber grill stand-offs, outline logo plate, stereo input wiring). The original config was with a C-90 top and EV bottom but I've seen lots of combinations from the factory. Does yours have the top...

Does Anyone Enjoy the Mark III for clean tones or for blues

There are only about 6 of us, but yes, I live on ch1 with a choice OD to do the classic rock/blues thing. With an El Capstan in the loop you will crap yourself. Then stomp on ch3 with the neck pup with the tone dropped off on the guitar. More pooping will ensue. But what do I know?

Anybody Use A Plexiglass Shield Or Similar?

I've used a homemade plexiglass baffle for a couple years. Instead of buying a pricey name brand I went to Home Depot, bought a pair of 1/4" thick pieces of plexiglass, some clear duct tape, and slapped it together. It folds down perfectly and has withstood a lot of regular gigging. It's not...

    Anybody Roll Without OD Pedals?

Wow guys. Just, wow. :? A Klon in ch1 or on top of a lower gain ch3 is a beautiful thing. Finding new ways to continue finding flexible ways to use a 25 year old amp isn't heresy, it's a new spice in the recipe. To each their own.

What's the application? Bedroom, bar gigs, both? Metal? classic rock? Jazz?

Mesa Boogie Mark Five:25 through 4 cabs

Good, solid comparison. Thanks for sharing. 8)

My band's meeting with a big time Manager But...

I'm not sure about the relevance specifically to the music industry, but someone with highly credentialed experience is going to command a premium for their advice. Unless you happen to be related to them, chances are, they won't do it out of the goodness in their heart. And $100/hour for a...

Speakers for a Vintage 2x12 Slant Metal Grill Halfback

Over the 20+ years with these cabs, I've swapped speakers several times. The stock C90/EV still sounds great but depending on the music, it was sometimes shrill. C90/C90 worked well for a modern rock thing, especially when driving both 2x12 cabs. Right now, one has WGS ET65/Vet30 and it sounds...

    Mark III Behaving Strangely

While changing the tone circuit caps can be a nice modification, ceramic and metal film capacitors don't "leak", only electrolytic caps are susceptible to the dielectric core drying up or leaking over time. Not trying to be a jerk, but wanted to clarify since a specific comment was made above...

    EVH 5150 III

I spent 2 days recently with a 5150 III and about 25 years with a MkIII. Keep the Mark and buy the 5150. Complimentary amps, IMO, and are worthy of owning both. In fact, I can't see a comparison between the two at all. Apples and oranges.

    Mark 3 foot switches

There's a 3.3k ohm resistor to step down voltage for the LED on the Lead/Rhythm and Rhythm1/2 boxes. The Rev/EQ switch has no LED or extra components. Reverb is tip and EQ is sleeve, I believe.

WHERE CAN I GET A COOLING FAN FOR A C+

If you can't wait for M/B to open on Monday, then you probably will only use it for 1 gig...which it will survive without a fan. Most amps don't have cooling and work fine. M/B goes the extra step to ensure reliability but you should be fine for one night without it. If really concerned, go to...

How to tell if speakers are re-coned?

Those speakers are freaky-clean considering the condition of the Tolex. Not that this means anything, it's just odd to have speakers in that good of condition for something from the late 80s. My EVs came with a lighter grey gasket and have aged to a lighter color, too, but I've giged the crap...

Does anyone make top back pannels for Boogie halfback cabs?

If you can find that Tolex, the process is really easy. I have one, but I'd love to have another for my other 2x12 HB. GTS did a great job on my head shell, but don't know if he'd do a simple panel.

High gain preamp tubes on markiii

I agree with the RFTs, completely. Be aware that it will also darken ch3 noticeably. Personally, that's perfect but others may want to keep that brittleness. Again, depending upon taste, putting an RFT in V1, too, will give the entire amp a pretty sinister vibe...too much so for me but it did...

Mark III odd behaviour: Fuse blows and Power Tube Glows red

IMO, no. Or rather, in my experience I've not needed to do that...and I play mostly in class A mode too. Even though the other tubes are still energized, they shouldn't see the same "wear". I'm curious to hear a factory response. Another point: my inner power tubes haven't needed replacing for...

Mark III + Big Muff pedal

I love it in ch1 and have tried several fuzzes over the years. It's a tool, and one that can yield unique and tasty results. My preference is to put it in front of the amp. Oh, and here's a shocker...not everyone plays metal with their MkIII.

MkIII back online - What drive pedals do YOU use?

For ch1/2, I've used a TS-9, Lovepedal Kalamazoo, Keeley DS-1, Big Muff, EP Booster, OCD, and Fulldrive 2. Everyone of them added something different. For your music, the DS-1 and OCD probably would bring the right flavor and the EP Booster works perfectly after the OD for a lead channel or up...
