Local dealer tells me not to buy a Boogie!

I know I've completely hijacked my own thread here... I'll tell you something though. I think all the modeling is great and awesome, in that it allows newer players to get a lot of acceptable sounds at a reasonable price. Just think about how horrible those Gorilla practice amps sounded 15-20...

And, to be fair, most non-musicians can't tell the difference anyway, so they are great for live performances, especially for a cover band. Hell, people are used to hearing music in a digital format anyway, so I think a lot of audiences would prefer a Line6 amp getting the exact sound they hear...

Do you feel better about your gear by insulting other people's gear?

Hey, there's nothing wrong with Line6 either. It is good for what it is, and certainly there's a place for it in the world of music. Not everyone has the money for 3-4 different amplifiers and a whole pedalboard of effects. Not everyone lives in a situation where they can crank a halfstack any...

Local dealer tells me not to buy a Boogie!

That's an incredibly hateful and wrong-headed attitude you've got there. Especially wrong-headed if you love making music for the sake of making music and if you feel any sort of connection with others who make music. Who are you to say that some people are "Crate customers", or that there's...

Not so much "kiddie proof", but what if you decide that cranking everything sounds best, or the output is accidentally cranked? No amp should start smoking under any condition that is caused only by maxing out the knobs.

Absolutely... certainly, when I get my amp it won't be from the Daytona creep. So I know I have at least one more drive that way in my future. :D

Yeah, it seems stupid, but... on the other hand, it wouldn't be impossible to build a circuit that cut out or blew the fuse before the amp started smoking, you know what I mean?

Heck, I guess we're almost neighbors! It is 2 hours away, but my wife had some business at the hospital there, so I've been a few times this summer. Are you looking forward to their expanded store?

4 cable method with your boogie....

The amp is a mid-1980s Fender Princeton Chorus. And what I mean is that it is a marked improvement from either the pedal plugged into the amp's input or through the effects loop alone.

Local dealer tells me not to buy a Boogie!

No, seriously... if you can turn the knobs that way, shouldn't the amp be designed to handle it? It seems like it should be able to handle it, period. If it can't, there's something inherently wrong with the amplifier.

4 cable method with your boogie....

Well, I tried the 4-cable thingy... and it sounds great with my cheapy amp and my Boss GT-8.

The "other" store I went to, Lipham Music in Gainesville(as long as we're naming names), the sales guy came in, seemed to know his way around the amp, and helped me dial in some really decent tones. And he didn't tell me how crappy the amp was, either.

No offense, but isn't that a product defect?

Yeah, and on that note, I can appreciate the heads-up if there really has been an issue. They did say that Mesa was good about repairing/replacing the bad amps.

It is in Daytona... You know what I was thinking? Funny how when I told them I prefered the sound of the Mesa to the Marshall, they just steered me over to the discontinued models. Odd, and somewhat cheesy.

Local dealer tells me not to buy a Boogie!

I was especially wondering since I got the feeling that those amps had been sitting there for a pretty long time, while I know they haven't had the Marshall head there for very long. They still have a couple of F-series amps, that they weren't bothering to try to sell me. It just struck me that...

Local dealer tells me not to buy a Boogie!

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had major issues with quality on the newer models. The semi-local guy was telling me that they've had to send back so many new Mesa amps over the past year or two that they are considering dropping the company and going to Rivera instead. They're an...
