looking for a good crunchy pedal

Carl Martin has a wide range of OD pedals that are amazing. I personally like the Plexitone with my Boogie rig - but I have an original Hot Drive N' Boost ver. 1 pedal that I will never get rid of just because it goes so well with almost any amp or guitar you use it with.

Switched To a Road King 2

Yeah, well... to be honest my midi gear doesn't sound all that great to me with the 2 Boogie amps I had. It sounds kind of sterile to me - like it sucked the tone right out of it. So I'm going stripped down with a few pedals and that is working out - sounds great, very organic and musical - no...

OK so now I gotta try that out. Spongy setting channel 3 Vintage huh...?

    Tube Substitution on RK2

What - if any - tube substitutions can you do with a RKII? I'm assuming EL84's with yellowjackets is fine. How about 6v6's for the 6L6's?

Switched To a Road King 2

Yeah an amp like that would be sweet. I must say that the brit channel is a bit harsh to my ears especially with EL34's. I thought it would be creamier - but maybe I just have to spend some time with it. I like Channel 2 FAT with the gain up and treble at around 2:00 running the 2x2 pairs. Lots...

Switched To a Road King 2

You know I was going to pop in a pair of 34's I bought at Mesa and then this deal came up and I had to scramble to make it all happen in the time allotted. So no - I never did.

Switched To a Road King 2

So I had a chance to have both amps side by side for a while - well a few days anyway - and I think that they are both great amps. For me - though - the Road King 2 suits my playing style a bit more and so I had the chance to do a straight across trade - my Mark V combo for the RK2 combo and I...

    RK 2 Foot Controller

Picked up a RK2 Combo and was wondering if there are any alternatives to the humongous king controller out there and what other people are using. I'm only going to use channel switching and solo. so the other stuff is poorly placed on the board for me. Was going to do midi with an amp gizmo -...

    Mark V and effect units

RMC1 wah >TC Nova System>M5 You can get the Amp Wizard Mini and do all your midi channel switching on the Nova system and the amps' channels change with the patches you program - BUT they don't have the proper cable for the Mk5 yet. It is coming soon. This will eliminate the need for the Mk5...

You CAN NOT mIx TuBeS on the Mark 5

This is exactly what they told me at the Mesa Store. Have to be running in 90 watts on all channels to get the blend of all 4 tubes. So can somebody call Mesa CS tomorrow and ask what the heck is the real deal? **** it. I'm popping in the EL 34's and going to record some stuff with it. 8)

You CAN NOT mIx TuBeS on the Mark 5

In 45 watt mode you are only using the 2 inner pair of tubes - which in your case is 6L6. You need to run in 90 watt mode in order to be using all 4 power tubes. So your noise issue in channel 3 is not the replacement tubes. Also the Variac power switch regulates the voltage and has nothing to...

You CAN NOT mIx TuBeS on the Mark 5

I just called MB and spoke to MARCUS in customer service who clearly told me that the Mark 5 is "EITHER OR". It is either all 6L6 or all EL34's - you can NOT put 2 EL 34's in the outer pair and run the amp in 90 watts mixing tubes like the Mark IV could -- as I was told at Mesa Boogie Hollywood...

Does the Mark V really deliver?

If you don't think those solos are pure comedy - I think you need to lighten up pops. That newborn is messing with you.

    Mixing power tubes

I was at the Mesa Hollywood store where they said you could mix tubes in pairs running the amp in 90 watts. So I bought a pair of EL34's that I haven't had the time to pop in as an outside pair. Now If they are wrong - and I'm not saying that they are - let's just say it wouldn't be the first...

Does the Mark V really deliver?

I like the little "smoke break" he takes in between his awesome hammer on techniques. I thought he was going to snort some Geritol. Joe Satriani must be proud of his prize student. Does anyone have the tab for this?
