do they really sound THAT much better, platypus? or is it more of a response thing? i've heard van halen say that in his opinion, the transformer is the most important part of the amp. i just can't understand the IIc+'s going for so much. and my favorite tone ever (master of puppets, and yes i...

Anyone convert their MKIII to a MKIII+ (IIC+)

can't you always just mod it back if you dont like it? (i'm referring to the 3 cap replacements for clean, lead, and presence. not referring to the 3+). edit: tho i guess you could mod that back too, it would just be hella expensive. seems like a local tech could do those 3 cap replacements...

    Switching to lower power tubes?

"If a12AX7 tubes has "100% gain" then the 12AT7 has 40% less output, or put another way 60% gain. The output is further reduced another 20% with the 12AU7 with 40% gain. Finally, with the 12AY7 a further 20% output reduction is achieved to have a 20% gain." by this math, if i have 3 12AT7's in...

    1x12 combo question

lol oops. i just never see any older combos without the 12L, and i never see any newer ones without the C-90. I guess people tended to get the upgrade on the older ones, and the 12L went out of production at some point in the early 90's?

    1x12 combo question

thx. how does that speaker differ from the evm 200 watt beast (other than power rating)? cause i know at some point around serial number 25,000 of the mark III's they started to switch over to the c-90's. are they more similar than different?

    Couple questions about Mark III's

thanks for the detailed reply, man. i definitely don't need a "refined" sound, i just want to be able to get good tones out of it, and it seems like i will be able to do that. sweet. my question about the eq was really poorly worded. i'm gonna rephrase it and ask again. you have two amps: amp...

    Couple questions about Mark III's

I'm looking to buy a mark III. I've been checking that jaxed site mash I read about on this board (so crucial!). A lot has been said about the differences between the stripes and other options (graphic eq, simulclass, reverb mod, etc.). My questions: 1. Does the lead mode on the different...
