MKIII Purple stripe Reverb knob acts like a mid knob

My purple stripe does this as well. I believe that is the reason for the reverb mod? I kind of like the effect, as I can reach back and dial in more or less scoop depending on the situation.

    Mark III ++ (NAD)

Congrats! Hard to beat the Mark III in the tone dept.! 3++ loses reverb to add another gain stage, correct? I've only had the pleasure of playing Mark III and V, and I prefer the tone of the III by a mile.

Need help on buying first Mesa...

I would either save a little more money and get a mark III with GEQ, or else try and find a 50 caliber with GEQ ideally. You might be able to get the 5150 to sound closer to a mark series with an EQ in the loop. Try running it with presence and resonance at noon or below, bass down low, like 9...

    Mark III Advice

Last time I replaced them in my blue stripe simul, I used mesa tubes as they have them available in the proper range for your amp. I play blues, hard rock and metal, and these were fine for me. Others probably have different opinions, and that is O.K. Make sure you use matched pairs if it is 60...

    Mark III for heavy music

If you want it to sound more recto like, try engaging R2 at the same time as lead, otherwide without it, be prepared for the tightest sounding amp you've ever heard. Mark III's sleepwalk heavy music.

Convince me to keep my Mark III

As someone who sold a Mark III a year ago, and just bought another, let me tell you, you will miss it! I would say to look into a lighter speaker or switch to head/cabinet setup. also fresh tubes and a once over by a tech. Try doing something you wouldn't do like running without any of the pull...

NAD Mark III Puple stripe X by cord? updated with pics

Thanks. Remember, it isn't how clean it looks, its how filthy it sounds.

Ah, I see the SC now that you pointed it out. Makes the most sense as well. Yep, I love the cream tolex. Pure class. I bought the rig at a guitar center here in the twin cities. Thanks for your help and knowledge! :D

NAD Mark III Puple stripe X by cord? updated with pics

I added the pics to the original post. I included a pic of my home made footswitch which I converted out of an old a/b/y box. :)

NAD Mark III Puple stripe X by cord? updated with pics

Yeah, I loved my blue stripe, but I also think it maybe needed some service as well as this amp is much more quiet. The quietest high gainer I've ever played. As far as if it was upgraded, maybe, but judging by the dust on the under side of it , I doubt it. I'll see if I can get pics up...

NAD Mark III Puple stripe X by cord? updated with pics

Hi all. I'm back in Boogieland after purchasing another MKIII. This is a 1986 purple stripe long head simulclass, reverb, GEQ in white tolex with matching 2x12 vertical cab. In pretty darn good condition. I like this amp much more than the Blue stripe I had before. It is less bright, slightly...

    Mark III 4 month review

(long winded post warning) Hi all. It's been a busy spring for me and I thought it was time to review my baby, a Mark III blue stripe combo, loaded, ev12, eq, simulclass, reverb, all 3 switches and cover in almost new condition. I paid on the high end of the price spectrum, but it was everything...

    New guy here.......

Oops! missed the part on the rivera! A killer amp as well. Btw, when I say the cleans have grit, backing off the volume knob 1 number on my guitar or using my coil tap brings it back to a black face shimmer. This is the only clean I've ever heard that I don't want any reverb to cover up its...

    New guy here.......

I am new here and new to Mesa/Mark 3 as well. Mine is a blue stripe. It is agressive as can be. I have it dialed to sound like Metallica live tone with more mids. Set this way, cleans have a little grit, but thats how I like em anyway! Very Metal! If you can swing it and keep the 800, that's...

New Boogie owner and blown away!

Yep. the only other 2 amps I gas for are an electradyne and one non Mesa, a Splawn Quickrod, But I did prefer the ED by just a smidge. I also like single recs but don't think I'd ever really use it as much as this Mark to justify it. This is the only amp I've owned where I can dial in my sound...

New Boogie owner and blown away!

Blue stripe. It was in my op, you just must of missed it. I feel lucky to have this little monster. How did Mr. Smith do it?

New Boogie owner and blown away!

Hello all. This weekend I became the proud owner of a Mark 3 combo, blue stripe, all options, EV speaker. Almost in new condition. I never would have beleived a small little amp could sound so huge! (or weigh so much). I probably will do the r2 volume mod eventually. I can't beleive the dynamics...
