I've done the Mod that Nomad100 came up with and it worked quite well... However, I think that the 2 gain channels on the Nomad are loaded with too much low end on the EQ. Especially with a band. I'm running with the bass knob just above 0 on both of those channels and it's really good.

I think I paid $649 with upgraded speakers and a fresh set of tubes from a local shop about 2 years ago... should be about the same now.

Make sure you check out the Extreme mode which is switchable near the reverb knobs on the back. I run the 45 in extreme mode all the time. As far as EQ settings and such, I'd start with all the knobs at noon and tweak from there. Volume and gain as well. Make sure you get it cranked up a bit...

OK... I just did the mod on my Nomad 45 2x12 and the result is great for me. The difference is that the sounds more lively and open. On the drive channels it adds chime and evens out the frequency response across the spectrum so that there isn't a huge woolly preponderance of bass and low mids...

I use a Strat loaded with CS '54s and love it through my 45. I've normally got it in extreme mode and while the strat sounds good, it still takes some dialing to get the mud out. Personally I use the Strat for lower gain stuff. Mostly funk in fact...

Any ideas as to how the PI mod might work in a 45? My uneducated guess is that more highs and upper mids means more chime and ring from the EL84s but maybe too much or maybe in a harsh way... I suppose that it wouldn't take too much to try it and see, but maybe someone else can confirm...
