This clip wasn't using the "Instant Gratification" settings.
In my first post I stated that I used their Clean/Crunch/Lead settings with the gain set a bit lower, because when I cranked the gain it sounded even worse.
also, this clip was only of the Rhy 1 and Rhy 2 modes. I did not click on...
I posted this in Rigs and Tones but wanted to get some more opinions from folks who personally own a Mark IV and read this section of the board more often.

Correct, it does get worse with the gain turned up. No matter what settings I adjust, it always sounds this way.
I also plugged it into my Bogner OS2x12 with 2 V30s. No change in the sound. I'm glad I'm not the only one hearing this.

Just want to get some opinions on the Rhy 2 channel. It sounds IMO that there could be some internal issues with this amp's preamp section. The Rhy 2 channel sounds like its about ready to die... and not in a good way, in a bad way.
take a listen and tell...
thanks for the info... and for everything else. I plan to retube it and have it checked out when it arrives.
looking forward to having some fun with this amp. Never owned a Boogie so this should be interesting.
I'm sort of thinking the same thing here. The Mesa's are biased so cold that you can get away with goof-ups like this without damaging the amp.
Anyways, I got pictures of the guts... real close-up pictures. Everything looks right inside. The owner performed a thorough tone-test cranking the amp...
thanks for the responses.
I'm going to have the amp owner take some guts shots for me. Is there any area in particular I should have the owner concentrate their photos on?
He's been using it weekly only running the clean channel. He's going to test out the rest of the channels with the footswitch so I assume it is still working.
Would this cause any wear at all? I'm just trying to foresee some costly repairs due to undue wear or damage on the amp from running it...
I'm looking at a used Mark IV combo for sale. The pictures the person sent me clearly show EL34s in the inside slots and 6L6s in the outside slots. Not sure how long it's been running this way.
Just wondering if running the amp this way could damage it? Also, if so, how?
Thanks
tubes built like a tank? haha. I know what you mean though. Those are nice tubes.
I've always used Shuguang EL-34B-STR tubes in my Bogner and they sound very nice and rich..... and they're built like a tank. ;)
very great as always! I also think you sell yourself short on your playing. I really love the big smooth sound you get!
I'm still searching for a Mark IV to buy. :( I'll get one soon. Your clips feed the fire for sure!
I'm very curious about the Axe Fx's Mark IV models too.
