thanks for the advice. I might keep waiting for a used special to come along since that was the amp that I really liked.

$1000 good deal for a lonestar

I was thinking of buying a lonestar that I saw used for $1000. Does this seem like a good deal? I've listened to the lonestar special and really liked the sound. Will the regular lonestar be just as good? I would really like to get the special but I never see them used.

Lonestar comparable to a Fender super reverb or vibroverb?

Has anyone compared the lonestar to boutique amps such as Badcat, Dr Z or Tone King? Is the tone as good as these class a handwired amps?

Lone Star or Lone Star Special

I'm surprised that you found the EL84 sound flubby when overdriven. I thought that was more characteristic of 6L6 tubes. Well, I guess I'll just have to listen for myself at GC this weekend.

Lone Star or Lone Star Special

Yeah, I guess I'll just wait until they have a LSS in the store so I can try it out. I currently own a dc-3 which has el84s. I like the sounds I get from it but the lead channel is too high gain for my tastes. Also, they reverb could be better. So, offhand it seems like the LSS would more...

Does anyone have clips of the lonestar special that they can post on the web? I'm debating between the two amps and the GC near carries the lonestar but they don't have the special in stock. Thanks

    Lonestar special compared to DC-3

I'm thinking of replacing my DC-3 with a Lonestar special because I'd really like an amp that can do clean and moderately distorted sounds well. I like the clean channel on my DC-3 but the lead channel is bit too much for what I play. Could anyone who has played both amps comment on the...

    Running DC-3 on fewer tubes

Hi, I hear that tube amps sound better when they are turned way up but my DC-3 too loud to do that. Can I remove a couple of the tubes to reduce the overall volume or will this ruin my amp? I guess the newer Mesas such as the lonestar special have a switch to turn off some of the tubes...
