How does the Quad / 50/50 sound at bedroom volume? Is there much loss of tone? Would the Studio Pre fare any better? I'd like this setup but I gotta keep the volume on the down lo.

trick question. the pod is a preamp. nice lead tone tho. too bad it doesn't get a decent recto or even mark IV gain. at least not with the patches it's sold with. used to have one. can't say i miss it.

I have heard from other dealers who report similar cases with that model. Still, if they fix it for you and it's fine thereafter, then you got a terrific amp. Those cleans are better than the Lonestar in my opinion and the lead isn't half bad either.

I have a Pod XT Charlie and I can get a great Mesa clean tone but I have so far been unable to dial in a decent lead sound. The Pod XT's distortion effects suck. Their very harsh. I'm looking for that warm, smooth Mark IIC+ lead tone. If I could get that on my Pod XT, then no worries.

Well the issue remains jbird, you have to push the tubes to get great tone and at even 50 watts that's a whole lot of sound coming out of your speakers. Like the man said, even 5 watts can be too loud. If Mesa engineered a 5 watt amp that could deliver Express 5:50 cleans, Mark IIC+ leads, and...
