The case against the Mark IV vs. LSS

Thanks! Good to know. Mark IV sounds perfect for me. Only one question remains ... How does tone hold up at bedroom/apartment levels? I have my eye on a Masotti which is designed to deliver at all master volume levels. Other amps out there use a power scaling approach (although can't hold a...

The case against the Mark IV vs. LSS

OK, I need to be educated. Is the Revision B referring to the standard Mark IV made after a certain date (including today's version)? Or does Revision B refer to a mod of some kind? The smooth Mark IIC+ lead is EXACTLY what I'd like to have on a Mark IV. And my original question was is that...

LSC = The best amp in the world

Check out the second group of cuts under "Classic" http://www.masottiamp.it/audio.html btw, the first group using the Modern model X100M done by Giacomo Castellano is some REAL good writing and playing IMHO.

The case against the Mark IV vs. LSS

I have recently heard that the newer production Mark IV lead channel is "different" from the older ones. "More recto-ish" somebody said. Is this true? btw, on the Petrucci site a guy posted a clip of a killer Mark IV lead tone. His secret? Lead gain 8 pulled Lead Treble 8 lead Bass 0 Lead...

    Quad + 50/50

How does the Quad / 50/50 sound at bedroom volume? Is there much loss of tone? Would the Studio Pre fare any better? I'd like this setup but I gotta keep the volume on the down lo.

    What amp am I using?

trick question. the pod is a preamp. nice lead tone tho. too bad it doesn't get a decent recto or even mark IV gain. at least not with the patches it's sold with. used to have one. can't say i miss it.

Road King II Players - Smooth Lead Tone?

Here's a video of what Petrucci is using on his RK II : http://youtube.com/watch?v=e2uklZ7_C5s He doesn't put an overdrive pedal in the chain (neither would I), but uses delay to thicken his sound a bit. Sounds good to me.

    Express 5:50 problems

I have heard from other dealers who report similar cases with that model. Still, if they fix it for you and it's fine thereafter, then you got a terrific amp. Those cleans are better than the Lonestar in my opinion and the lead isn't half bad either.

Road King II Players - Smooth Lead Tone?

I have listened to a LOT of clips of the RK II and the only lead tone I likes (smooth like a Mark series rather than harsh) was made by John Petrucci. I believe he uses the 6L6s. CAN you dial in a Mark-like lead with the RK II (i.e. smooth and creamy - not necessarily an exact copy)? Or is the...

May I Have Your Attenuation Please

I have a Pod XT Charlie and I can get a great Mesa clean tone but I have so far been unable to dial in a decent lead sound. The Pod XT's distortion effects suck. Their very harsh. I'm looking for that warm, smooth Mark IIC+ lead tone. If I could get that on my Pod XT, then no worries.

May I Have Your Attenuation Please

Well the issue remains jbird, you have to push the tubes to get great tone and at even 50 watts that's a whole lot of sound coming out of your speakers. Like the man said, even 5 watts can be too loud. If Mesa engineered a 5 watt amp that could deliver Express 5:50 cleans, Mark IIC+ leads, and...

May I Have Your Attenuation Please

I'll check it out Russ thanks. Ever hear of the Emery Sound Superbaby? If not, check out the .mp3 clips on their site. The clean is especially nice. 6 - 12 watts I believe.

May I Have Your Attenuation Please

Great feedback guys, thanks. I guess the key is dropping the power output then. I wonder if using a Mesa 20/20 paired with a Triaxis or Studio preamp would do the trick. Then attenuate as required. What do you think? Best of both worlds? Or is there a more effective solution? The goal is...

May I Have Your Attenuation Please

I live in an apartment. I want to enjoy the benefits of playing great amps without compromising on sound quality by trying to keep the volume at an appropriate level. How effective would an attenuator be on a RK II? a MK IV? I hear that some are not so good (affect tone) like Marshall. I hear...

Two words, five syllables, tone heaven ... Earcandy Buzzbomb.

    Mark IV Amp question

No, that's not quite a correct explanation. James' wife is a vintage model, an old rec, and one day the Marshall knocked on James' door and told him it was wrong of him to use her as a slave to his "power section". So he put her in a 1960 cab, gave the driver $5k and told him to drop her when...

    I Want It All Dammit!

OK I'm going WAY out of the box for this one ... I REFUSE to compromise on my tones. Period. I want a RKII and I want it NOW! So, what about this, and I invite all sound engineers to chime in on the efficacy of this bizarre idea ... Suppose I were to line a section of my apartment walls with...
