Looking for 10 watt, crunch mode power tube break up

I just discovered Ch 1, Tweed, 10 watts and it is awesome. Can that setting get up to "stage volume" and work with the other 2 channels?

    First gig with Mark V

I have owned the amp for several months and all I can say is - WOW. When turned up to stage volume it comes alive. So great! The Edge mode was like a Super Reverb on 10 and the clean channel was perfect Fender cleans. Crunch mode really sounded better at higher levels. More Marshally...

Am I The Only Guy That Prefers EL34s ?

I switched to EL34s and i love the sound. The clean channel did not suffer at all, IMO. However I may switch back now that I have used the 34s for a while. It is awesome to have the option. The Edge mode is killer with tons of bass and a nice "really cranked Fender " kind of vibe. Channel 3...

    Thinking about EL 34's

So far I am finding the EL 34s to be great. Not better than the 6L6s but very good in their own way - different not better. The clean channel is great - no loss there at all but a bit different tone. Sorry to be so undescriptive. Ch 3 is great too and I was able to get great tones. The...

    Thinking about EL 34's

I went for it and put in 4 Electro Harmonix EL 34s but only had a few minutes to listen. My main 1st thought was that the cleans still sounded fantastic. A little different character but really sweet and still great. My (very) initial reaction to Ch2 and CH 3 was that there was slightly...

What kind of tubes come stock in Mark V's?

Aren't Ruby Tubes from different sources like Groove Tubes? Those companies test and grade them? I mean as opposed to Tung Sol which is a brand?

    Thinking about EL 34's

Thanks for the advice. The speakers are very broken in (Celestion G12-80 "Silver Series") and they are in a sealed 2x12 Marshall cab. I have heard EL 34 amps with beautiful cleans so I think I will try this swap. Nothing to lose but cash. Did I hear someone say that V1 is a critical...

    Thinking about EL 34's

I have some reservations about the 3rd channel due to the fizziness of the high at times. The mids can be hard to dial in too. I am thinking of experimenting with the EL 34s when I can afford some. Do they sound significantly different or is it more of a subtle change? I do love the 6L6...

The Mark V keeps getting better

In my case the speakers are well broken in already (2x12 Marshall cab with Celestion G12-80) so whatever the reason I am really loving this amp. I have not tried the amp with the loop bypassed yet. That should be fun!

The Mark V keeps getting better

Maybe it is my ears or maybe the amp is actually getting better, but the tone is continuing to be MORE satisfying after 2 months of using this. It truly is a real achievement in amp design. Lots of amps have tons of options but in this case every tone is amazing in it's own right. The...

Will Tung Sol 5881s work in my Mark V?

Thanks for the reply. These are from The Tube Store about 5 years ago so definately not NOS.

Will Tung Sol 5881s work in my Mark V?

Today one of the stock Mesa Boogie 6L6s started glowing and flashing, so I thought that I better get that one out of there. The amp sounded fine, strangely enough. I found a slightly used set of Tung Sol 5881s and I would love to NOT have buy new tubes. Will these work? As I recall the...

Extreme vs. IV mode, besides volume boost what.....

I am really loving this amp but the Extreme mode is the only one I have not found appealing. It just sounds harsh to me but i must admit that I have not given that mode much time.

Erratic EQ on the footswitch: I think I've found something!

Excellent! I just had that happen last week so you saved me a trip to the store. I couldn't get the amp out of the chasis. Is there a trick to it? I thought it would be the same as the Fender type amp.

    Mark V clean = Lonestar?

The Mark V has great cleans but I don't think it has the Lonestar clean, not quite. That would be too good to be true. However the amp is new to me so perhaps I just haven't found it yet. I also would love to see some settings!

How are the cleans with EL34s?

I rarely use Ch 1 in Tweed mode though. Is it a hit when using the Normal and Fat settings too?
