    Recommend best 2x12 for cleans

I assumed here that you meant a 2x12 combo not just a new cabinet. If that's the case and you want to stick with Mesa (not a bad choice) then the Lone Star 'Classic' 2x12 has great cleans, good features, solid workmanship, and the hi-gain channel. That said, I think you should also try a Dr. Z...

LSS vs. Maz 38 Sr (NR): The verdict and request for advice

Good advice on both counts; especially the: don't rush thing (that's how I got here in the first place)

LSS vs. Maz 38 Sr (NR): The verdict and request for advice

I have an LSC 2x12 and an LSS 1x12. I have now bought a Maz 38 Sr (no reverb). For details on how I got here (if you care :) see [1] below). I now probably have too much gear and am considering options (well, can anybody ever REALLY have enough gear?). I have used the Maz in three situations: 1)...

Great; glad it was something simple

Question: Trading my LSS for a Dr. Z Maz 38 Sr.

Thanks. If I go with the Dr. Z and drop the LSS I will stand to lose some money, that's for sure.

Question: Trading my LSS for a Dr. Z Maz 38 Sr.

Thanks for the help; this kinda matches my gut. Did you ever seriously miss the power-scaling and channel switching? What do you use for hi-gain lead tone (although, from what I was getting out of the Maz all you have to do is dial the guitar in and out and end up needing less 'distortion' gain...

Question: Trading my LSS for a Dr. Z Maz 38 Sr.

I'm doing an outdoor gig this weekend and have been having a tough time getting the organizer to allow me to use my own amp (I was going to go with my LSS 1x12). The stage manager is much more reasonable and is actually a Dr. Z dealer (and GREAT guy); he told me I could definitely bring my amp...

    LSS Solo Switch

I should have been clearer in my post. This is the exact thing that happened to me: When stepped on: Channel switch worked and light lit up (for channel switch), When stepped on: Solo switch didn't work and light didn't light up (for solo switch)

    LSS Solo Switch

Did you check it with a different cable? I had this happen to mine after two months; it was the cable.

    Best EL-84 amp

I own an LSS 1x12 (also an '07 LSC 2x12). I bought the LSS to side-by-side with my LSC and ended up keeping both. I've been very happy with both and have even had some opportunity to compare them in e.g. a jam setting against other amps: Bruno and Dr. Z Maz Jr. However, it is fair to say that 1)...

LSC vs FUCHS ODS MINI REVEIW

Bikedude, how does a Goodsell stack up against an LSS?

Question: Return knob settings (and definition of 'dime')

Two questions: 1) In an interview Andy Timmons mentions that setting the loop return knob past 12 on an LSC really changes the tone. Anybody experimented with this? Suggested sample settings? 2) People often say e.g. 'Dime the gain'; I've always assumed that means turn it to 10 (i.e. all the...

LSS vs. Dr. Z 18w vs. Orange

Mr_You This was a pre-gig for a bigger gig; the rented backline IS being forced on me for the bigger gig; the organizer is not an experienced musician and really doesn't get the problem; he's also on somewhat of a 'Everything is my call' trip; I'm working out how to insist on using my own gear...

How long before amp modellers replace amps ?

A few responses first: To Rocky (LOL BTW): I disagree; I just can't believe that the time period between now and modellers ruling will be a prime number; just doesn't make sense. Re: Nostalgia of owning a tube amp: Nostalgia is 'a wistful desire to return ... to a former time'; nostalgia with...

LSS vs. Dr. Z 18w vs. Orange

I played at an outdoor thing tonight; had my LSS with me but didn't use it; the backline was already setup and it seemed more trouble than it was worth to get them to throw my LSS up there. Was I sorry... There were a bunch of amps: two Dr. Zs (18w and a bigger one), an Orange Thunderverb 200...

    Lonestar or Super Reverb?

I have an LSC 2x12 and an LSS 1x12. It's been years since I've owned a Fender but I have played through a bunch in the last year or so. Super Reverb: I think the one I played through was relatively new. Did have that great, clean Super sound. Didn't do much beyond that. Twin Reverb Also newer...

    Lonestar Format Opinions?

LSS 1x12 is a very useable format; not bad to move (especially with casters) and sounds quite good. I haven't A/B'd with the 4x10 but that looks much bigger on more unwieldy. Mesa has been doing compact 1x12 for years so they know how to get a build that configuration for tone.

    Lonestar Special question: Clean headroom

Thanks, this is helpful. Sounds like you are definitely happy with the swap out, correct? Also, did you consider anything else for the bridge?

    Lonestar Special question: Clean headroom

Thanks, Ricardo: these are good tips. I agree that the LSS simply won't do loud, crystal clean; in some ways that's the beauty of it for me. At lower volume applications it sounds fantastic, clean, responsive. At louder settings, and with a hot pickup like I have, and the guitar cranked, the...

    Lonestar Special question: Clean headroom

I just discussed this with Mike Lull in email. Here's what he said: "Yes the JB is a high output (hot) pickup. The 59 is a lower output PAF style pickup. It will give you a nicer sounding clean sound and will also sound great distorted." That makes sense to me; so my options are: work with the...
